Does the Defiant Daylight Adjusting Indoor Digital Timer also uses a battery?

No battery.
This single-pole or 3-way, programmable or dawn-dusk timer is same as GE 15312 sun smart timer, and requires a neutral wire to power the electronics.
GE renamed all their wall timers, or sold their timer business to Defiant in year 2013-4.

http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-GE-15312-timer.html

If you want a timer with same capabilities, that uses a battery, and does not require neutral wire, then choose Intermatic ST01 or Ei600 timer

Is the Woods 59028 Programmable Timer Switch Light Almond a 3 way switch?

Woods 59208 is single-pole timer.

Open following link to see list of timers used for 3-way application:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Woods-timers-and-manuals.html#59028

When replacing 3-way switch, some timers can replace either switch. For example Aube and GE.
Other timers can only replace switch that receives power from breaker. For example Intermatic.

The timer replaces only 1 of the 3-way switches.
The other 3-way switch remains.
But in all cases, the remaining 3-way switch has to be rewired to accommodate the timer.
3-way timers cannot replace 3-way switch wire-for-wire.
3-way timers mimic 3-way operation. When 2 of the timer wires are connected, the timer reverses programming. When those two wires are disconnected, the timer programming resumes. So off becomes on, and on becomes off.
The remaining 3-way switch has to be rewired so that switch connects and disconnects the two timer wires that mimic 3-way operation.

Hi I have decora 24 hour programmable timer 6124h. Its display seems to be working just fine and I can change the settings on this. But its not turning the load on. Any idea? Much appreciate the help on...

I don't have repair for defective timer.
Check wire nut connection going to load.
Confirm that load is operable and turned on.
See if timer is producing output on blue wire.
Try timer in place of a different switch to see if problem is load or wire going to load, or if timer is defective.
Make sure there are both ON and OFF times programmed.

Check wiring:
Timer blue wire to load.
Timer black wire to hot.
Timer white wire to neutral.
Green to ground.

You posted under Aube timer.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Aube-timers.html

Aube timers have internal rechargeable battery that cannot be exposed to cold temperatures nor can battery be replaced when it goes bad.
Try resetting timer to see if function resumes.
Industry standard is 1 year limited warranty, so your product is under warranty.

The Aube T1032 is ordinary 7-day programmable, without astronomical capability, but it can be wired for single-pole or 3-way.
If you want same type of timer without battery, for single-pole only, Home Depot carries 15071
http://waterheatertimer.org/GE-timers-and-manuals.html#15071
Advantage: no battery, and this timer can be exchanged in-store without shipping costs.

Lowes carries Utilitec 0141244, for 7-day single-pole, without battery:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Program-wire-Utilitec-LW60418.html
Lowes also carries 7-day & astronomic 0192773, single pole, no battery

Timer has 4 wires Blue, Green White and Black but wall switch only has black and white. where do I connect all the wires?

You are replacing a single-pole switch that has two wires.

You posted under UPM timer.
But UPM timers have a red wire instead of a blue wire, so you have different brand.

Some GE programmable timers and some Leviton timers have a blue wire.
Here are instructions:
-Green wire goes to bare ground wire.

-Timer black wire goes to black wire
-Timer blue wire goes to white wire.

-Located in back of electric box are white wires twisted together and covered with wire nut. These are neutral wires. Timer white wire connects to these wires. This will power electronics inside the timer.
-If your box does not have white neutral wires described above, then connect timer white wire to bare ground wire along with timer green wire.
-Turn power ON, and push on-off button. If timer works, then it is wired correctly.
- If timer doesn't work, then reverse Timer blue and Timer black wires.
- If lights blink on-and-off, then you connected white wire incorrectly, review wiring shown above.

If your box does not have neutral wires or bare ground wire as described above, then buy Walmart.s Brinks 46-1022 or Intermatic ST01C or Intermatic EJ500 or Aube T1032. These timers do not need neutral or bare ground wire.

Add a comment to identify timer, and I can help more

Double-check wiring:
1) Timer-green-wire connects to bare ground wire.
2) Switch has 2 wires. Take switch wires and connect them to timer-black-wire and timer-red-wire. Choose either one for now.
3) In back of electric box are white wires twisted together and covered with wire nut. Connect timer-white to these wires.
4) If electric box does not have white wires described above, then connect timer-white to bare ground.
5) Turn on electricity, and push ON-OFF button. If lights come on, timer is wired correctly. If lights do not come on, then reverse timer-red and timer-black wires.

What do i do with the third wire

You do need a neutral for a timer switch, that is the white wire coming off the timer. The black wire is for the hot wire coming into the box, and the blue wire is the wire going to the light.
