Question about Vehicle Parts & Accessories

Open Question

Viper alarm I have a 2003 gmc sierra 2500 with a viper alarm installed after I purchased it new. I was shown how to adjust the sensitivity when it was installed but a few years later the gmc dealership had to replace the instrument cluster due to a defect and now looking under the dash I cant seem to find the little knob that adjust the sensitivity. It seems they have zip ties and electrical tape everywhere. Is the adjustment knob on the alarm module or is it seperate?

SOURCE: I have a viper 5900 car alarm installed with remote start.

Look under dash for a small black box with wires coming out of it, about 2 or 3 inches rectangular.. there should be one or two screws on it. Look to see if it says which direction to turn for sensitivity. As far as not receiving, you need a new antenna, this is covered under warranty through DEI either bring back to where you purchased or look online and see where the closest dealer is to you...

SOURCE: Viper alarm, lights dont flash

Sounds to me like the parking light output wire. They usually have a seperate fuse or the connection is bad. The connection on your vehicle should be behind the pass side kick panel and look for a wire to the white/purple wire and check that with a meter or light to see if it's kick out power. There is a possibility they used the negative trigger through a resister and that would be located behind the headlight switch. That will at least let you know and trace down the problem. Here is a link with that parking light info for yours. Hope this helps and let me know if you have more questions.

SOURCE: My Mustang Cobra has a Viper alarm system that won't set

Under the dash, Your installer that worked on your Cobra should have put an valet button under the dash, It is a small round Black button, Ok with the driver door open,,put your key in the ignition and go to the on position, Locate the black button before you do this, once the ignition is on hold the black button down for 3 seconds hit it once more and then turn the ignition off, the light should start flashing again and the chirp for arm and disarm with work again, What you have going on is called Valet mode which is designed to put the alarm side of the system to sleep which can happen from accidentally bumping it.

Hope this was helpful.

How do I adjust the sensitivity of my alarm? I can slam the tailgate and it will not go off. Also, I can activate my remote start and it will start and run, BUT, oftentimes when I hit the open door...

To adjust the alarm sensitivity there is a sensor usually on the steering column with a plastic screw that can be turn to adjust the sensitivity. To change the setting you will probably need the manual for the alarm and there is a wire with a small button on that to program settings for alarm sound or remote start start and stop time.

Hi, I have an oil leak from the case of the transfer box on my 2003 sierra 2500, looks like the case is worn through from the inside, can you help, is this a problem, thanks Stan

Yes it is a problem. There is a new design clip. The case needs to be disassembled, repaired and the new clip needs to be installed, or you will burn out your transfer case.

2003 sierra won't start with aoto starter

alot of alarms are installed incorrectly. I always encorage people to not buy them. installers put and tap into wires that should not be spliced with. have it removed and then go from there. i have seen many cars with random starting problems due to wiring faults. there is some many wires that could be messed up nowadays i could not tell you where to start.

Remote starter does not work but will unlock and lock doors.

depending on your alarm which it sounds like a viper model maybe? on my 02 you have to incorporate a factory alarm bypass module in order to be able to start the truck, they run about 100.00 bucks and have to be profssionally installed. The truck wont start because the computer isnt recieving the proper starting sequence due to the factory alarm
