Chainsaw wen warms up bogs down, wants to die cutting into wood

Hi I got a Stihl 028 woodboss chainsaw and it has a problem with boging down and dying wen the motor warms up as I cut into the wood. So I was sort of thinking ethier the carb and the needle in the carb is sticking or the choke is some how messing up to??.

Oh and wen the saw is warmed up after laying on the throttle the rps on the motor stay high then slightly drop then go up without touching the throttle and being that the rps are high the chain is still goin with the chain brake off.

Oh ok Yah sorry about not listien my saw under stihl chainsaw ther first time using this site. but forgot to mention about 3 days ago took the carb apart looks fine all through took muffler apart looks fine not cloged the cylnder is good. Um but the one thing that looked like in need of replacing is the fuel line has small cracks near the carb that look like ther deep and could be the cuase of the problem becuase wen saw started acting up and i took the cover thats over the airfilter off the right part of the airfilter was soaked in fuel.

My bad, you are correct. 40:1. I was thinking Husqvarna.

  • clintgonemad May 24, 2009

Check fuel filter/line, plugged air filter, air leak in carb, could be a hole in the carb diaphram, mixture screw not right??

  • clintgonemad May 25, 2009

That would/could be it. Fuel line is pretty cheap. Town & Country or Lowes style store carrys it, here its $.87 a foot at T&C. Rotting fuel line is pretty common for saws that have set. Saw repair shops get $20-$40 for 10-15 minutes of work changing them.

That sounds like that could be it, too much air, fuel not mixing right. Hope it works !!!

Most likely running a bit lean if it bogs down and dies under load, just open up the fast run jet a little. The two carburetor adjust screws are on the side near the pull start, one is "Idle" the other is "Fast run", you will need a small flat blade screwdriver that fits through the hole in the plastic housing, turn the "Fast" adjust screw 1/4 turn at a time anti-clockwise and test performance. if you go too far it will be too rich and will not rev out as fast with no load, find just the right balance. (Too lean it will rev out fast with no load, sounds great but have no power)

What oil please

Best to use proper chainsaw oil to lubricate the chain cutting in the wood, but at a pinch you can use multigrade car engine oil. Don't use secondhand oil as the added acids, pollutants, etc., from the engine will break down the oil making it less efficient....and leave staining on the wood.
Chainsaw oil can be readily bought from good garden centres.
Hope this helps.

Hi, I currently own a Husqvarna chainsaw and I hate it!! When I purchased this thing I paid over $400 for a lightweight-easy start saw. This thing is tempermental-certain kind of gas-certain kind of...

Howdy, As youhave invited an opinion, here is mine: I live on a small rural island in the Northwest and don't know anyone who doesn't own a Stihl..period. I have an older neighbor who cuts all his own wood and will until he dies. He just got the big stihl electric chainsaw and has a generator on his quad. It cuts all day, quietly, no smell and no buzzed nerves at the end of the day, so that's another way to go. Gas or electric, Stihl has the fewest letdowns.

Here is a link to their website

My opinion does not necessarily reflect the opinions of others here at FixYa.com.... But it aught to:)

There are two idle screws one high, and one low. Your high adjustment idle screw needs to be adjusted.
