i dont think so. most games install game data then you have the game save data as well. if the game doesnt do either of those you might be able to play it. i've never tested it personally.

No. The hard disk is necessary for game saves and system data. It uses a "notebook" style hard drive that you can purchase at computer supply stores. Check www.playstation.com for details on which type you should get if you need one.

No you need a hard disk to run the ps3.

If you dont have one then look down at your local computer store for a 2.5 inch sata laptop HDD.
If you get it take the ps3, and on the bottom (if its standing up and you can read the PLAYSTATION 3 writing) there is a small panel that should say HDD on it or it could just have some random writing.
With a small screwdriver remove that plate by sticking the screwdriver under it from the right handside and slide the panel out to the right.
Undo the blue screw and ping up the little handle.
Slide the whole drive carrier to the right and carefully remove it there should be four screws either on the little metal tray that comes out or on the hdd you bought. slide in the new HDD and tighten all four screws (one in each corner) and slide the drive back in, push it to the left and redo the small blue screw.
Click the panel back on and turn the playstation on.
It should ask you to format the drive, accept it and that should be it.

I know its long but i hope it helps.

No because the HDD holds the OS (Operating System) that gives you your main menu, plus most ps3 games needs HDD space to install a partition of itself onto the HDD.

Yes but nothing will save and you will get a bunch of pop ups when the games try to save things on your hard drive

My hard disk goes hang when it boots the bios and cannot detect it. but my hard disk is still running.

I have a similar problem with an 80 gb drive in a Compaq. I've isolated it to the cable or the connector on either the motherboard or the drive. Try unplugging the cable at each end, then plugging it back in. Reboot. If it finds it and works normally, you have 1) a bad hard drive cable 2) a bad hard drive controller socket on the MB (bad MB :-( ) or 3) an intermittent connector on the hard drive. 1 is easy. 2 and 3 are problems. Try a different drive and see if it boots reliably every time - if so, suspect the drive. If its the MB, probably time to UPGRADE.
