It sounds like there's a problem with the tape loading mechanism. The first thing you should try is seeing if the camcorder will allow you to run a head cleaner through it (probably not the problem, but something everyone should do regularly, but most people don't). If that's not the issue, then it's probably something that you can't fix yourself. You should have information in the box that tells you where to send it to for repair. Good Luck.

Flat belt part number is..
301657001.. BELT (CAPSTAN)
and square belt part number is...
302440501.. BELT (FR2)
Above said info are taken from TC-WE435 cassette player s/m.

SOURCE: I have a sony duel
The belts and idler rubber products in the tape deck need to be replaced. They are either dried out or broken. This is a common problem - mainly mechanical in nature.
