SOURCE: Toughbook CF-18 Supervisor Passwd

Toughbook CF18, CF-18
How to remove the BIOS Supervisor Password:

Open all covers and openings. Remove hard drive and battery. Remove bottom of notebook. Many many tiny screws.
Now look towards the rear of the notebook. You will see 2 plugs both have a red and black wires. The one with the much smaller wires and connector is the BIOS battery. Use a pair of needle nose pliers and remove this plug.

Leave it off for 5-15 minutes.

Leave the BIOS battery plug off. Replace the laptop's main battery. Leave the hard drive out. Turn the unit over and turn it on.
Press F2 when the screen comes up. POOF! NO PASSWORD!

Go to Security and disable the password. Save configuration. Turn off the notebook. Replace the small connector. Turn it back over and turn it back on. Press F2 and verify that there is no password. Go to Security and Disable the password again. Save the configuration.
Put the bottom back on. You're done.

NOW FOR THE BAD NEWS!!!
Your hard drive is now dead. Replace it. When a supervisor password is used it locks the hard drive to that password. There is NO WAY to recover the hard drive. It is called an ATA security password. Without the ATA password the hard drive is completely useless.

NEED TO RESET BIOS PASSWORD AND / OR WINDOWS PASSWORD

To reset the BIOS password, do the following:

1: Make sure it is unplugged from the adapter.
2: Remove the battery.
3: Take out the 13 screws from the bottom cabinet and lift the cabinet about 1in up.
4: Gently unplug the speaker cable.
5: Completely remove the bottom cabinet.
6: Find the little yellow coin sized battery which is located about 2 inches from where you plug in the power adapter.
7: Unplug the coin sized yellow battery.
8: Pump the power switch a few times to discharge what little charge may be remaining in the computer.
9: Plug the coin sized battery back in.
10: Flip the computer over and plug it in to your power adapter.
11: Turn it on and start pressing F2 - the CMOS settings (including the password will have been reset.
12: Press F9 and then enter.
13: Enter the correct time/date.
14: Press F10 followed by enter and it will reboot without a "BIOS" password stored.

For a windows password recovery there are a few programs that can do the job. I personally like "ophcrack". It is freeware that you can easily find using google.

Hope that helps

HOW TO INSTALL WINDONS XP PRO ON TOUGHBOOK CF-18

XP can not be installed from usb as the bios does not enable it. Plug the ide hard drive into an older desktop system and install from boot on cd. Once all files are copied over then you need to copy the i386 folder over from the cd. Reinstall the hard drive into the toughbook and carry on the install from there.

Trying to give wake on lan to cf-18 like our cf-19s

not that hard, time consuming task.
BIOS, NIC, Power Option, remote user permission.
which require you to be at the machine. Since you can't do BIOS change via remote.
if all machine are similar, it should take you no more than 10 minutes per machine to set up, and test.

Bios setup password

Hi!! Usually DELL Latitude or Inspiron passwords are storedi n eeprom memories that has to be read or writen to remove / bypass the BIOS password!!! Password generate a hash code that will appear after 3 wrong password attempts and it has a 5 digit decimal format "xxxxx" You can get the hash code by pressing F2 or F10 when you turn on the laptop to enter Bios and then when password prompt appears hit F12 to get the hash code.

You can generate a unlock code or master password with the service tag "xxxxxxx" 7 digit, this code appears at the password promtp screen or at the bottom of the laptop with a white sticker.

I got Latitude D620 Bios password Unlocked at http://www.laptoprebirth.com They can calculate a master password with the hash code. Hope it helps

Cf-18 toughbook

The BIOS may not support the larger drive at all; I suggest you look for a Toughbook forum and repost there and check Panasonic's site for a manual download and possibly a BIOS upgrade if the unit is equipped with a flash BIOS.
