Hp officejet 6110xi all-in-one keeps "remove and check cartridge"

Keeps giving me this message even after a new cartridge is installed.

    Did you remove the scotch tape from the cartridge jet head before you installed it?

Our HP Officejet L7780 displays the "Align Printer" message and then does it automatically wasting several sheets of paper aligning, then the next time we print a page the same message comes back. Is there a way to turn off the "align Printer" message. It is printing ok otherwise.

Hello there,

Try cleaning print cartridges from HP toolbox

or reset process

Please see note at bottom re: powering on and off

1) If you know you are going through the re-set process. Ensure there is nothing in your printer que already when you want to power on again.

2) Plug printer/scanner directly into the wall, not a power bar or UPS... Read at one point, it has something to do with the electricity (KW or Voltage or Amps) factor and power requirements to the printer/scanner. However was very technical and don't remember enough details to explain properly, sorry... Anyhow, directly into the wall.

This is what has worked for me. Got original re-set process of solution from sillygirl.

3) Disconnect all cables from printer.

4) Clean the glass on top with alcohol and cotton swabs.

5) Then go through the reset process (press # 6 while plugging the power back into the printer).

6) If you have the CD for your printer it doesn't hurt to put it in your CD carriage in case your printer is looking for files or drivers. If CD starts to go to a un-install or full re-install just cancel and leave in carriage.

7) Sometimes helps if you first plug printer in.

8) Re-boot pc before powering on printer. Once re-boot has started and PC will start to look for printer.

9) Power on printer (press # 6 while plugging the power back into the printer to re-set).

10) Watch for point where your printer icon usually appears and plug the USB into the PC.

11) If this does not work then take the printer apart and clean the underside of the glass as well. Unfortunately need to go through re-set process again. May need to buy a set of screw drivers for removing the glass. They are different. (Torx)

12) In another solution it states - you must clean all the mirrors inside the scanner assembly q-tips work well (black box closed with two locks) also the lens and the delicate spaghetti-like lamp. Generally this works... Not everyone has done this part but worth a try when the printer is already open.

13) There is a black and white strip at that end of the scanner. Check to ensure the strip is there, in tact and placed correctly. This is what the scanner carriage aligns itself with.

Just so people know. I have posted solutions to this before that have worked for me. However, I really do think this comes down to a driver issue (do we all have XP, mine is actually XP Home Edition). Since HP no longer updates these printers not sure if we will ever see a driver that works perfectly. Once you get it going again it will all work great. The problem lies in powering on and off. Once you get it going without the scanner carriage jamming, leave it on! Even in the case of a power out I usually have to re-set again but can get it going, eventually (it can be very frustrating). Sometimes need to re-boot PC and plug USB into the PC while booting up and just about to look for your printer. This is to ensure it finds the printer/scanner. Also, when really desperate uninstall and re-install the hardware. Sometimes can try for quite some time to get it working again and eventually have to just leave it off for a few days then can get going again afterwards. Not sure if this has something to do with memory.

An error code showing that there is paper jam alert, but no paper is in anywhere in the machine except in the tray.....I have checked all areas, taken the back carriage of the unit, opened the top and opened the machine. removed the paper tray, everything, but there is no paper stuck in the unit

Use the following steps to make sure the carriage can move freely.

  1. With the product turned on, open the cartridge access door. The carriage might try to move into the access area. Allow it to move to that position.
  2. Without turning off the product, disconnect the power cord from the back of the product to reset the print mechanism and allow the moving of parts by hand. WARNING: The following steps require you to move parts by hand. There is a risk of electrical shock if the power cord in not unplugged.
  3. Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Look in through the cartridge access door or the output paper tray to make sure the cartridges are secure in the carriage and have not come loose.
  5. Check for any obstructions under or around the carriage that are preventing it from moving.
  6. Make sure the carriage can move freely across the width of the product by firmly pushing the carriage to the left, and then to the right.
  7. Clear any obstructions. You might have to reach through the output paper tray to access the carriage.
  8. Close the cartridge access door, and then reconnect the power cord to the back of the product and wall outlet.
  9. Press the power button (c00636182.gif ) to turn on the product, make sure that there is paper loaded in the product, and then try to print a document.

  1. Make sure that the product is turned on and connected to the computer.
  2. Hold down the Shift key and click here to open the Software and driver download page in another window.
  3. Under Locate your product to get support , type the product model and then click Next .
  4. If necessary, click the product number under Select your product from the list below .
  5. Under Select your operating system , click the appropriate operating system.
  6. On the Software and driver download page, in the Update section, click Resolves certain print cartridge rejection and scanner failure error messages .
Step two: Install the update
  1. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the update.
  2. If a device update error screen or another error screen appears, restart the computer and try to install the update again. The update might fail if it has already been applied.
  3. After installing the update, make sure that the product is turned on and loaded with paper.
  4. Try to print a document.

Hi Jim,

When you install a new cartridge, be sure not to touch the contacts, and make sure the contacts on the cartridge align with the contacts on the printer, and all packing tape has been removed. If the contacts on the printter are coated with dry ink, you should clean them with a cotton swab and distilled water. Dampen the swab and wipe off the dry ink on the contacts and let it dryt. Also, run the cartridge alignment on the new cartridge.

My hp all-in-one printer keeps saying , remove and check color cartridge we've done this and even purchased a new cartridge and still the same message appears. Whats wrong! Do I need a new...

I would check the area that the cartridge and printer connect together (where they make the electronic communication) have a look if there is anything stopping the 2 from connecting correctly. Also, getting your hoover in there and giving it a good old clean can often solve a lot of problems too.

Can you find a friend with a similar HP printer, i.e., one that accepts the same model-number of ink-cartridge? If the cartridge gives the same error-message in the other printer, it's time to responsibly recycle your "dead" cartridge, and give the brand-new cartridge to your friend, for his/her usage.

I have installed new cartridges but the status panel keeps telling me to remove and check colour cartridge

Reboot your PC , unplug your power and usb / parallel port and see if this clears the message. Run a "clean cartridge and align paper" also
Did you buy refilled ink cartridges, 'cus if so, this could be the problem,
Sometimes it happens to me also, hwen I buy those refilled cartridges but I just ignore it and it prints, scans and copies, even if that error message is on the front screen.

6110xi keeps giving error message to remove and check cartridge. After doing so many times and resetting machine, error still exist. Can you help me? Thank you.

You probably just need a new cartridge, they have an expiration date after which they dont work, and many of the generic refills don't work. HP says to clean the contacts on the cart. with alcohol and also the pins in the carriage where it goes. After that it's just a new cartridge.

I now have a message on my 6110xi printer which says "remove and check cartridge". When I remove and check, they both seem fine - when I reinstall, the message remains.

Try another cartridge. Sometimes they go bad. If the message goes away, then your cartridge is bad. Otherwise, try cleaning off the contacts where the cartridge goes in.

HP recommends to use genuine cartridges (not even refilled ones) to be able to print at desired quality. As you are using refilled cartridges, you may not be able to print in good quality and may sometimes, errors like you are facing right now, creep up. So , I would suggest you to get new genuine HP cartridges to avoid such issues. If you are facing the same issue even after you install new cartridges, please let update us so that we may proceed further.

HP 6110xi cartridge align under Vista Home Premium

it is necessary to place the allign page in the scanner and then press the enter button and the scanner will read the allign ment page as it will take 2 minutes and then it will display the message allignment complete message then it will become normal as it was .so after u get the allignment page place it in the scanner unit of the printer and then press enter.
