My computer won't read my external hard drive. The light will turn on for about 3 seconds then turn off. It makes a weird buzzing noise when ever the light changes. I have tried using other chords and on different computers, but nothing has worked.
There is a (laptop-size) hard-drive inside the case, and that hard-drive is failing. As it spins, it generates those noises, like a dying dinosaur. If it still is under warranty, exercise the warranty, and replace it. If the warranty has expired, tough luck.
