Canon G10: clicking properties on camera movie files gives creation time, but after copying to computer, properties only gives copy time, not original creation time. Where did the original time go?

If you use the camera cable or a card reader to get the photos on your computer, the metadata is there. When you copy the same picture the metadata is lost and is replaced by the new data at the time it was copied.

Importing photos into I Photo

Sounds like the photos are imported based on creation date. Changing the file name will not change the order in which they are added. iPhoto looks at the files as if you were developing film. The pictures load in the order they were taken (created)
I do not belive there is a way around this unless you can somehow change the creation date before you import.
