Question about GE Spacemaker WSLP1100D Top Load Washer
I have a GE Spacemaker washing machine model WSKS2060W1WH. It works works perfectly until it reaches spin cycle. It drains after wash and then when the spin is suppose to kick in I just hear a 'loud click' and the drum starts to turn but stops right away. I thought the brake was stuck on, but I know it is releasing as I can watch it from the back side. The brake releases and then just re-engages. So just for grins I thought I would take the spring off the brake to see if it would work for whatever reason, and it still just gives me a 'loud click', like a contact on a relay is bad? Am I getting close to the solution? Where is this relay located to see if I can fix it? Or is it even a relay problem? What part am I looking for? This problem will occur whether you use normal wash cycle or just manually turn the dial to 'spin' selection. I hope someone can help me as I really need this going right away. Thank you in advance for your help. Gary brake seems to be stuck on, or is belt too loose? motor is extremely hot and smells burnning a bit? what is the problem here most likely? clothes are x tra wet from the lack of spin and draining on the spin cycle how/ what do i check voltage or continuity of motor??? thank you ..............gavin
Most washers use a lid switch that closes the contacts when the lid is closed, look for a "probe" on the lid that pushes a "pad" that closes the switch, it's possible the switch pad or linkage is bent causing erratic contact closing, any way that is the first place to start. THIS IS A SAFETY DEVICE, DO NOT BI-PASS IT. Good Luck

SOURCE: GE Spacemaker No Spin
yes, you are getting close to the solution. the loud click may be an over-current relay that is sensing above normal current leading to the high speed winding of the motor. unplug the motor and test the motor for shorting. also check wiring for chafing to chassis. if all above ok, then do a "dry test" by unplugging motor and running machine with voltmeter on motor plug...are you getting correct voltage to drive motor?

Welcome to FixYa
When the unit
is unable to drain it will not even work in spin cycle, the problem is with
blocked drain/drain pump filter which should be cleaned. If after cleaning the
problem comes back then the drain pump needs replacement. Please get back to me
if you have any other questions.
