Probably clogged at the intake. remove rug plate and check intake. Broken belt is other possibility. #5 belt. This a ver basic vacuum, so not much to go wrong.

SOURCE: My dirt devil vacuum won't suck up anything and its brand new!!

Take the vac bag off and turn on the vac , it should blow air out, if not unclogg the hose where the bag connects, also when you check the roller and belt, unclog the flex hose(located inside base near roller assembly) that sucks up the dirt. As long as the motor works fine the rest is just maint.

SOURCE: Dirt Devil Upright Bagless Vibe Vacuum no longer sucks

Sounds like there's a clog in the long hose that connects to the dirt canister. Remove the hose completely and check for clogs. There is a blue plastic piece that the hose is attached to. You can remove it by taking out the two screws in the back, and the four screws behind the dirt canister. Once those are removed, the hose comes away from the vacuum with the blue plastic piece attached. That should allow you to check for clogs. If necessary, take the hose outside or a place that is well lit, so you can visually verify the absence of clogs.

SOURCE: dirt devil mvp not sucking

These Red Devil vacuums (like the similar Hoover uprights from the 1970's) rely on the sealed rigid bag case to pull the air through the bag before it reaches the vacuum motor. Any air that leaks into the case without passing through the bag decreases the available useful suction.

As a side effect, the motor runs slower when the case isn't sealed because ironically there's more air coming in for the vacuum motor to move and its working harder. The vacuum motor spins fastest when the vacuum is sealed up and the hose is blocked and no air passes through the machine.

Vaccum has no suction

Here is what we did to fix the problem of our vacuum having no suction.
We unscrewed the three screws on the back and took the hose off of the vacuum.  Then we took the hose outside and put the water hose through the vacuum hose and turned on the water.  After about 30 second the water pushed through a dust bunny the size of a fist and a marker.  Basically, the vacuum did not have suction because the hose was clogged with dust, etc.  After reassembling the vacuum, it worked just fine.

Will not suck

You must still have a clog, check the dirt inlet down by the brush roll(#23) for a clog. Do you have suction at the hose end, if you do, then it is clogged down below. If you don't then either the hose or filters are clogged.

Hoover doesn't suck well

Did you check the inlet from the bottom? Take the bottom plate off, make sure that the tube(inlet)is free of any clogs. Also if the belt is stretched, then it won't drive the brush roll like it should, replace it part #38528033.

Hello Bisselluser!

I had the same problem, and figured out it was the belt. Mine slipped off.

Just remove the bottom plate (four screws) and there it is!

I hope this works for you. Mine is working fine now. :)
