Pfaff 1222 E Makes a whirring noise, wheel won't turn

How long has it been since it's had a thorough cleaning & oiling (including the internal moving parts)? Resist trying to run the machine if the only thing running is the motor. You could burn up the motor or possibly break a gear.

The following method has helped me rescue some frozen older Berninas (which your model seems to resemble). This method worked on all of them except one that also needed a cracked gear replaced.

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

It was working now it seems to be frozen the needle part wont move

Brother sewing machine noise

Sound like the whole unit needs a good cleaning.
My rule is "if it moves give it a lube", be careful not to get oil on electric boards or in the motor. What is the make and model of your machine. I will try to help you more.

Makes a grinding noise when I turn it on, otherwise, it works fine.

The lubrication on the moving parts is poor and so there is friction on the bushes and linkages. If you can use some light oil on all the lubircating holes and also on the moving hinges the noise will diappear and also the machine will start with up with ease .
Apply oil and run, then reapply once till the motion becomes free.

THE belt that runs top to bottom does not move,do i need a new belt?whats the #?

If the belt is in good shape it may be either a seized drive train or a bad motor. Remove the belt and check to see if the motor runs when the treadle is depressed. Try turning the machine by hand and feel for resistance and listen for grinding, squealing or rubbing noises.

Ok, this is pretty common. Disengage the machine (as if you were winding a bobbin) run the machine at high speed for 5 minutes.
The motor is dirty and this will clean it out. You should hear the pitch of the motor change as the minutes go by.
