Try n use a friends pc, go to gateway web site. Create an emergency boot disk, start your computer up from there. When booted create a boot disk n use this to problem solve your startup problem. Which windows r u using. Normally when you switch it on if you continuously press either f5. Or f10 the computer will boot into emergency boot mode. Hope this helps

How to restore system

im assuming you have the recovery disk

Restart the computer and press the pause/break key on the keyboard.

This key will slow down the boot process and allow you to see the motherboard BIOS access key that you'll need to press in order to access the motherboard BIOS.

Press the respective motherboard access key and check the motherboard BIOS for a boot sequence.

Change the settings in the boot sequence so the primary boot device or the first boot drive is the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.

Insert the system recovery disc into the disc drive.

Restart the computer and allow it to boot up before doing anything.

A black screen should show up with the words Press any key to boot from disc CD/DVD.
Press a key to have the system boot from the recovery disc.

Allow the system to load.

Follow the on-screen instructions on how to install the rest of the operating system.

There are many different settings for you to choose.
If the operating system is just a little out of whack, you can choose to repair it.

The system recovery disc will contain important drivers and software for all the components connected to the computer system.

If you do not have a system restore disc you can search the Internet for drivers and software that are packaged for your specific eMachines model.

Restore the BIOS to their default settings so the hard drive is primary boot sequence.

This is an optional step.

You can leave the CD-ROM drive as the primary boot drive, but it will slow down the startup process by a few seconds.

hope this helps

Pc not booting from cd

Hi ankushh91,

try a different Bootable disk and see if it will boot, also try you disc on a known good computer see if the disk you are using is bootable aswell to eliminate the cause of the issue.
When Booting from a disc make sure the disc is inserted in the dvd/cdrom drive once you turn the computer ON then you will see press anykey to boot to CD or disc if this shows just press any key this will boot to the Disc if it is Bootable it will show the message press anykey if the disc is not bootable it will only try and boot to the Hard drive directly.

I hope this can help,

Dell inspiron 1525 laptop cd rom not accepting any disc. nothing shows up on the screen when i insert the disc.

Hi,

Try to use a bootable disc (usually OS discs or recovery discs). Boot to disc by changing the boot device priority into CD/DVD drive. If your unit will boot to disc, the problem is the operating system. However, if it will not boot to the bootable disc, surely, the optical drive of your unit is defective. In this case, either u need to reinsert it, or replace it with new one.

Hope this helps.

I just purchased a Hp notebook dv2214us from an auction but everything was wiped clean off the hard drive due to California Law. I completed a self test off the Bios and everything passed. I just recently...

did you go into the bios and change the boot order to boot to the cd rom first? Then it should boot to the disc. Otherwise you may want to use any xp/vista disc do the install dont insert a cd key then once windows boots up then put the disc in and try a recovery.
Thanks,
Lee

Advent notebook not booting.

ahh..yess...that can happen...try it with the restore disc, and press F2 while booting up. This will take you to the settings and bios, where you can disable the hard drive, and make the cd the boot device..do you know of this area in the computer?

How to use my recovery discs?

They should be in a bootable disc format and numbered. You will want to either enter the boot menu at start up or set the CD drive to boot before the hard drive in the boot order from the bios or set up. If you go from the boot menu then you will put the disc in the drive and select the CD drive. If you do the boot order, you will need the disc in the drive when you start the machine. If the discs are numbered, start with number one, boot it, and follow the directions.
