I got a mint Mystic on Ebay. Programmed my MMSI in and went out to test it. Everything worked perfectly--except it ignores incoming DSC messages--even when set to channel 70. Sends DSC messages, position reports, etc perfectly. Other radios receive and respond to my position request, etc, but my radio ignores their responses and ACKs.
I'm going to have to send it to the factory anyway because I got the brilliant idea to try a different MMSI number and see what happens--unfortunately that was past the allowable 2 entries and now nothing works DSC wise.
Just wondered if anyone else has had this problem with a Mystic.

Returning the radio would be your best option. There are many factors which can cause a radio to go dead. Assuming you have checked your battery and battery contacts, and tried a known good battery, if your radio will not power up, there isn't much which can be done.
I don't think the RAY100 is DSC compatible and therefore doesn't have the MMSI programmed into it. Most manufacturers limited the number of times that the MMSI can be programmed to one (!). After that, it has to got the factory or to an authorized dealer who can bypass the restriction.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but according to the Owners Manual for this unit: http://www.busse-yachtshop.de/pdf/simrad-rd68.pdf (Page 6),
to erase a previously entered MMSI, the radio must be sent to a Simrad authorized dealer. I suppose this feature was put into effect to cut down on stolen Simrad products.
Hope this is helpful, sorry I couldn't do more for you.

This secret code is for the Raytheon / Raymarine RAY 220 VHF. It may work on other Raytheon/Raymarine radios also.
Here you go:
With the Power OFF, Press and HOLD the FUNC, 16/9 and DSC keys while you power ON. Do not release the keys until you hear the audio BEEP which means your done. Then reprogam your NMSI number as per the manual. Pretty easy, hey?
You can't "select" channel 70, nor can you talk on channel 70. Channel 70 is reserved for the exchange of digital data between radios.
And it is not possible to address an "emergency" (do you mean distress? or urgency?) message to an individual recipient.
Your radio is not allowing you to do any of these things because it has been (correctly) programmed to discourage you from doing things that would be illegal.
If you set up a routine call with your friend (or anyone else), you should find that once the two radios have completed their (almost instantaneous) exchange on Channel 70, they will both switch to whichever working channel you had selected, and he will get a beeping sound to tell him that there is an incoming call.
Sounds to me like both radios are doing exactly what they are supposed to.
The only reason why your unit stops printin faxes is because the toner cartridge is nearly empty. Th e unit will then try to conserve the remaining toner for printing and copying. Follow this steps to program the unit to print all faxes, even with toner low:
When the toner cartridge is nearly empty, the machine shows
the “[Toner Empty]” message and continues printing except
incoming faxes. In this case, incoming faxes are saved in
However, you can set the machine to print incoming faxes, even
though print quality is not optimal.
1 Press Menu until “Machine Setup” appears on the display.
2 Press the scroll button ( or ) until “Ignore Toner”
appears on the bottom line and press Enter.
3 Press the Scroll button ( or ) to select “On” or “Off”.
Select “On” to ignore the [Toner Empty] message.
Select “Off” to stop printing incoming faxes when the
message appears. This is the default setting.
4 Press Enter to save the selection.
5 To return to Standby mode, press Stop/Clear.
It will likely be best to sell it and get another as the price has fallen below the fix price.
The glue that holds the screen to circuit is damaged and not fixable by the average person..
you may be able to find a screen on ebay though that could be a waste of time and money.
