There are also some support wheels under there that the drum rides on in the back and a felt guide in the front. if either of these are worn they will make noise as well.

The most likely cause of your issue would be a broken belt, these belts are susceptible premature wear, typically caused by the tension pulley. It's recommended to replace the belt and tension pulley. Part# 6602-001655 belt, Part# DC96-00882C. The entire home vent system should also be checked by a qualified vent company. An extra loud noise starts when drying

In all likelihood the belt that turns the drum is frayed. and may need replacing. It would be a good idea to unplug it and take a good look at the belt before it comes completely off, this way there won't be any confusion about how the new one goes on.The only moving parts when it is in operation is, the drum, belt and a very small wheel on which the belt travels.

Dryer makes loud grinding noise when you cut it on

The dryers drum runs off a belt as you may know to spin it around to dry clothes. This belt is attached to a belt tensioner also to keep the belt snug. This tensioner has a roller with a bearing in the middle of it. Most bearings are made of brass and wear out causing it to grind
I would replace the belt & tensioner pulley as a unit. Sears will have these two parts selling together as a kit. Go online to view with your make and model number to see

My dryer is making a loud siren type noise and the drum turn is kind of clanky sounding too. It is producing heat and drying but I am concerned that something is wrong. I have an Amana LE8317W2 electric...

You will need to remove the top of your dryer and inspect the belt tensioner. If the idler roller has a bad bearing and sticks the roller will get a flat spot causing the noise you are hearing

When we turn on our Whirlpool Supreme electric dryer, it heats up and dries clothes, but it is making a loud squeaking noise throughout the cycle...sometimes louder than others.

The squeaking noise can be caused by any of the following.

Location High:

Belt slipping on the dryer drum

Worn Drum seals but would sound more like a dragging noise

Location Low:

Belt tensioner pulley bearing frozen and the idler pulley shaft is spinning inside the belt tensioner assy.

Belt slipping on the motor bearing

Motor bearing is dry

Thanks for using FixYa!

Squeeky Noise

Raise top by prying lose clips on front, remove 2 screws holding front in place (inside cabinet) and disconnect wirings, removed front (panel with door) panel, removed 4 screws holding inside front panel in and lifted it out, released tensioner from belt, lifted out drum out of unit, vacuumed accumulated lint from machine, motor, wiring, checked and greased drum rollers and tension pulley, cleaned drum edge from accumulated roller debris using automotive brake rotor cleaner, reintsalled drum, applied automotive belt dressing to belt and reassembled. Working for now. If reoccurs I will replace drum rollers and tension pulley.

Real bad squeaking noise in dryer

There should be a access panel in the back of the dryer to get at the belt and pully. You can check the belt operation from there. If that all seems good you will need to remove the front of the dryer and check the drum supports in the front and the rear support rollors. If you hear the noise more from the front I would say the front supports are the ones thst should be replaced. And yes you can purchase a repair manual for that dryer at a parts store. Good Luck
