Question about Gateway MX6453 Notebook

1 Answer

Windows does not load, clicking noises from HD (I think) MX6453

When loading Windows XP, sometimes i get that black screen and it says no OS found. Other times, I get to the loggin screen. My mouse dies shortly after, as does my keyboard. There is a clicking sound coming from the computer during this process. To see if it was simply OS error, I reinstalled Windows. While the CD was in the computer, Windows loaded perfectly (minus having the drivers needed for my laptop). When I removed the CD, the issues started up again.
I believe that this is a bad hard drive, but am not sure. I am past warrenty, and even while I was within it, Gateway never worked with me when my mother board went out (took them 5 months to get them to fix my 5 month old ((when it first had issues)) computer).
If this is a bad hard drive, I have no clue what type I should buy that would fit... any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

This is a little confusing, because BOOTMGR is not part of XP. Vista or better only. Use Win 7 OS disc and choose the Repair option.

No image on laptop screen. off board video works briefly.

If it has XP on it, the fix is to invest in a new laptop I am afraid. It has passed it useful life and there is no support for XP. You could strip it down, but the Graphics card is part of the motherboard. If it was the exciter, the thing that powers the screen, you would get a perfect picture on a secondary monitor. It should display automatically using generic VGA drivers. Once you have the OS loaded on the monitor, you then customise to the monitor you have and then the settings. This leads me to to think it is the graphics on the motherboard. Try reinstalling Windows XP over itself. If that doesn't work, invest in a new one.

MPR.DLL was not found try reinstalling - will not load windows xp

Is what I would do is go to  start>run>type cmd> reformat C:/ and this will clear out your hd. Then just reinstall ur choice of OS. Or you can just inseart the OS disk and it will give u the option to reformat that way. Hope this helps.

Acer 4720Z lost vista os

Most likely the hard drive went out, do you hear a clicking noise or loud ticking coming from the laptop?

Does it give you any kind of message like " NTLDR missing."?

Let me know.

If your drivers are from trusted source just click ok continue when the windows signing for drivers pop up window appear.

Now if you click ok and then the system fails to load and then give you a blue error screen, its caused by either
  1. The hardware or its drivers cause conkflict to the system, because your drivers are not from a source you can trust and they are not in compliance with windows OS features and as a result can not run in a windows OS. So get a fresh copy of the drivers from a trusted source preferably the product manufacturer
  2. The hardware itself is faulty and on installing to XP it causes a conflict in which case you can try the Sound card on a different PC and see if it runs, otherwise you need to replace it.
  3. (Assuming XP has finished loading the OS) Sometimes XP fails to unistall the previous drivers, if this is that case goto the device manager (windows icon >right click > properties >hardware > device manager) select ypur current sound card unistall the driver that is there and then restart your machine and load the new drivers again
