Compaq C502US laptop wont start

A Compaq C502US laptop I am working on will not start. A few times it got as far as saying it had a checksum error. I then went into the bios and tried to check the hard drive, ut the machine would stop. I got to the logon screen twice, but when I tried to logon the machine would stop. Sometimes the lighting bolt indicator stays solid after i have unpugged it and plugged it back in. but after a failed logon or disk check the lightning bolt flickers. Without the battery being in the lghtining bolt only flickers. I have reseated the ram in both ram slots. Once I thought the comp was going to start because I got to the logon screen, but than it died. Motherboard, Ram, power? what is the most likely problem? The hard drive is new, replaced by someone other than myself.

    With the hard drive out I still have the samw symptoms. Right now the hard drive is out and the lightning bolt is blinking at the front of the laptop. When I unplug from the comp and plug back in the comp tries to start but fails.

    C502US compaq presario laptop. The Battery is out the hard drive is out. Should I be able to get into the bios, because I cannot. Earlier I could. The machine has not worked for a week or more now.

    Power supply is brand new. I checked with a multimeter. Are there free manuals available so I can replace the motherboard.

Take out the hard drive from the laptop completely. See if you can turn the laptop on and have it stay on. If it does then that new hard drive is defective. Also be sure the battery is not hooked up at all either. Try another known good working hard drive if you can as well.

    So sometimes the laptop is turning on and other times its the lightning bolt on the front just flashing, intermittent power problems it sounds like, I think maybe the motheboard is bad, but see if you can try another ac adaptor just to rule out the adaptor.

Compaq Presario 2500 stopped loading windows XP with a prompt STOP: c0000221 {bad Image Checksum} The image COMCTL32.dll is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computed checksum.

This error is not the same as a CMOS Checksum Error, which refers to corrupted values of the CMOS settings, the ones you set through the BIOS setup program. This error means the contents of the BIOS code itself are damaged.

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press delete to enter setup
Press and hold delete during the boot up process to enter BIOS you can load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults ,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
click start control panel date and time you can make your adjustments to the date and time from there also right click on the date and time on the bottom toolbar (bottom of screen) you should see Adjust date and time tab

No complete starting

Unmountable boot volume means your harddrive has gone out.You will have to get a new one and load your os again.Sorry:-(

You need to repair your operating system (OS), using your OS installation CD.
OS repair wont loose your data, it will simply repair and correct your errors

Hard Drive will not boot in Compaq Presario C700

BIOS checksum errors occurs when either the BIOS chjp is faulty or most likely the BIOS battery is nearly flat and the stored info changes and doesn't match the checksum info.
Replace the battery with a new one, leave the battery out for 1/2 hour before inserting the new battery. The BIOS will be reset to the default settings, you need to configure it again eg, datr and time etc.

My Compac Armada M700 does not power up.

Had the same problem with My Compaq M700 No Boot Or Post. Battery Light Flashes 8 Times, Have to Wait 24 to 48 hrs sometimes longer to get Laptop to Start. Tryed the DC Converter Board Change No Difference same Problem. Noticed When Laptop Did Start Clock Time Was always a Little Off 2-4 Hours sometimes more. So Figure CMOS Problem With Time Issues. Read About Battery Memory Transitor Voltage spike Detection Issues Corrected With Newer Bios Flash at HP Supports. So I Flashed Bios With Latest 686h. During the First Boot After Reflash Battery LED Did flash No Start, After pushing the power button again it Started. And has Every since.So Far Laptop Now Boots Everytime and CMOS Checksum Seems To Keep Time Correct In Windows. The Bios Flash Corrects a Voltage Spike Detecting Transistor In The Charging Circuit. During First Start after flash Bios will run system test on the charging system and Correct CMOS. Worked for Me Hope this Helps a Few.
