Question about Sony DVDirect VRD-MC3 DVD Recorder

Open Question

I just used my vrd-mc5 for the first time and there seems to be a problem with the audio on finalized discs. I connected the machine to my SONY DCR-VX2000 camcorder via AV cable(red, white and yellow} and as per instructions used the pause button on the VRD-MC5 to stop start recording the desired clips. The problem is that there is a very loud CLICK noise inbetween each clip- needless to say this becomes very annoying while watching the finalized disc. To eliminate any faults on the camera I recorded the same clips direct from my camera using my old dvd recorder and the Clicking was not present. Is this a faulty unit or is it normal and would I be wiser to use ,say, a firewire?. The picture quality is fantastic though.CheersSTEVE

SOURCE: Multi-function DVD recorder VRD-MC5

Hi,
I had a similar no audio issue when using the I-Link connector and 8mm camcorder. I found that if i selected "Manual" rather than "Automatic" (copy everything) that I got good audio as well as video.

I have tried using a later model Sony miniDV camcorder with A to D passthrough from my 8mm Sony camcorder that I get better Video color using RCA cables directly from the 8mm Camcorder but better audio from the I-Link passthrough above.

SOURCE: Motorola VIP1216 DVR and Sony VRD-MC5 Connections for Recording?

I have the same problem currently. I have successfully recorded to the Sony CM5 in the past from my DVR, but no longer can. I have Comcast and wonder if they have changed the DVR firmware and blocked output. Also some broadcasts have something in the signal to stop recording. I got half of my program done, and can't record the rest on DVD. I will try to DVR local news, then record to the Sony, to see if it's a signal issue or something with the Sony. I haven't tried to record from a VCR.

With sony dvdirect vrd-mc5, can I burn pictures from my computer

Yes and no... you can not hook it up directly to your computer and burn copies of pix. You can however transfer your pictures to a memory card (SD, MS or CF) and then put that in the VRD-MC5 and burn your pix.

Hope this helps!

This is not a solution to your problem; but i can assure you that chapters do burn on my Sony Multi-Function DVD Recorder VRD-MC5. And, on viewing via a DVD player, work well.
