Question about Sony Handycam DCR-DVD108 DVD Camcorder

Used memorex dvd in sony cam and wont read in computer or camcorder

I bought memorex dvd for my sony camera because the store was out of the sony dvd's. I recorded my daughters school play on the memorex and i went to put it on my computer and it appears as though the disc is blank and nothing had been recorded. I had gone to the properties menu and says the disc is full. I have finalized the disc to read in my computer but nothing appears to be there. Anyone else with this problem?

I cannot play this through my camcorder at all. I can't play it on anything. Is there a program out there to extract the data and recover the footage?

I fu are able to play this dvd on camera then just take output to some recorder vcr or dvd recorder and rescue ur video , these dvd cams are giving much problem these days , u will see thousands of Queries like ur problem this Sony brand uses Monopolistic tactics to increase sales and they dont provide compatibiity with other brand of dvd discs and it also does the same with theier own DVd media as well so i would suggest next time u but a camera buy HDD not DVDRW , for now u can try using the proprietory owned Sony media for the reiable operation and pls also try DVD lens cleaner to clean th lens may be dust and dirt is there which affects the writing operation of ur camera

i hope it helps pls rate me WELL !

Dvd player shows (cannot play)

just for clarification you are saying when a DVD disk is in tray (closed) the screen shows can not play? .... what brand (disk) are you using....... try Maxell, TDK, Memorex or even Dynex brand.... you must also look at the speed (8x - 16x)... your device is okay for DVD+/- R & RW

Can your device show a pre-recorded DVD (store purchased)...... if not this may be a defected device

Device will not play previously recorded discs or record new info, but will play shop bought discs.on occasions it will display disc error. i am using new discs.

I Have had this same problem with DVD recorders. They sometimes will not play disc that were recorded on another player, you have to play these on the recorder that you used to make the recording. When recording you must finalize the discs to get them to play in other recorders, if they aren't finalized then the dvd wont recognize them as being recorded, there is no starting point set on the disc for the laser to pick up on. I have also ran into discs bought at the store that were not any good and I couldn't record on them, or when I did I would get the disc error message also. Try another brand of disc, say Memorex or Soney amd see if these will work, make sure they are compatible with the player, and they are the correct format for your player. There are 2 types DVD -R and DVD + R the + R work better on a wider range of players.

My memorex 16X DVD+R Discs to play in my home player

-r is more universal, +r is newer.
Howevr it could be what you are using and how you are burning the DVDs.
Try just moving the Video TS folder to the recording cue and burn just that (as data).

Incompatible disk message

You need to read page 8 of the JVC CU-VD20 DVD Burner instruction manual:
Recommended DVD-R Vendor - JVC, TDK, Verbatim, SONY
Writing Speed for DVD-R is 8X maximum, this is the real issue as I first bought 16X TDKs and they did not work, so now I need to buy 8X.
That's a bummer as most stores only supply 16X now.

Mini DVD Camcorder Problem

You will never be able to recover the information. Sony's system really will have problems with third party brands; there is particular engineering that makes this so. In my shop (Sony authorized), I have seen this problem many times. If you insist on using other brands, get used to problems. As your laser assembly wears it will become more problematic. Good luck, magic seadog

Wont play on other players

Here's the link to the manual; http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=RDRGX315 check page 67 - it sounds like your discs need to be finalised before you can read them elsewhere Hope this helps, if you dont find what you need please ask again :)
