Do you hear the fan running? Does the monitor have power? Are the cables to the monitor in tight? Have you used another monitor to see if the monitor is the problem?

Try reseating the memory one stick at a time in each slot one at a time checking for video each time. Just make sure you turn off the laptop before doing any of this each time and turn it back on each time to see if video comes back.

Sounds like you may need your screen replaced.

Upon turning on your laptop,
Keep pressing F8, until you hear a beep. This will give you the option to boot to safe mode. When you hear a beep, and NOTHING comes on your screen within 20 seconds, you need to have your LCD screen replaced.

Typically if its a hardware problem such as RAM, you'll hear 2 beeps or a POST message will display on your screen, letting you know that a certain piece of hardware failed.

Ive seen problems occur when people change a setting such as :
Right click on your desktop --> Properties --> Settings --> Advanced Button

And changing your DPI. This can cause your screen to go out (Not display anything). If its up to high chances are your LCD screen can not handle it. If you boot to safe mode, then you can fix this. Again if you cant boot to safe mode, then you have a mad LCD.

Give this a try and let me know what happens.

Oh one more things.

One thing i have also seen, more than once, and till this day i can not explain it, but a USB device plugged in. Remove ANY USB device plugged to your computer. Printer, FLASH Drive, Mouse, etc. Then turn on your computer.

If you have a floppy drive, remove the floppy.
If you have a CD/DVD in your tray, turn the computer on to take it out.

You can take a laptop hard drive and stick it in your desktop or another laptop.

Easiest way is to just buy an Hard Drive Enclosure (2.5 inch made for a laptop hard drive) and this will make it external. So you can hook it up to your desktop as an external drive. Or you can buy a mounting kit to make it 3.5 inch to fit in your desktop.

Now it depends on how old the laptop is and what kind. If its using PATA (40 pin connecter with 4 extra pins for master slave etc.) then you have to get a special kit so make it IDE to fit on your motherboard in your desktop. Easily found online.

If its SATA (Serial ATA, kinda "L" shaped) then your already set. You just need to buy a mounting kit. But i recommend buying an external hard drive enclosure.

If its for your laptop, yes you can swap it out and reinstall the drivers and OS back on it, depending on your situation.

Remove ALL media, DVD, CD, USB. Unplug, remove battery, plug in, reboot. Try a system restore/recovery. At boot tap ALT+F-10 repeatedly.

Dell b130 internal system restoration failed

Incase you don't have any thing important on the computer try a factory restore. This will wipe out everthing and make the cmputer like new. To start it power off the laptop. Power it on and hold down ctrl and tap f11 severl times at the Dell logo screen. Try this q couple of times as it may not work the first time. If this does nothing you'll need the os cd (xp cd) tO repair or reinstall windows.

is there a reset button on the power supply. if so try that. you might have accidently disconnected the hard drive cable. unplug AC and check all the connectors around the area where you installed the video card. make sure everthings connected. then before u close the case re connect the AC and check visually if the power is on and if everthings running.

Black Screen

try hooking up an external video source. Check to see if the computer is actually booting up. if the computer boots up, then the LCD invertor or Backlight of the screen is bad, need to be replaced.

If the computer does not boot up after hooking up an external video source, then most likely your motherboard is bad!

need to be replaced.
