Take out the hard drive and then turn on the laptop and try to go into the BIOS. If you can get in then that means the hard drive is bad cause its shorting out the computer.

Do you have an install or boot cd? You should be able to boot from a boot cd and check out the drive. Then you will know if you need to repair windows or replace the hd.

When you power-on the computer, does anything display, such as the amount of RAM, or "press DEL to enter BIOS setup"?

If not, then you have a hardware-problem with your computer;
the "good-news" is that the data on your hard-drive is OK.
If you connect the hard-drive to another computer, you can "rescue" your data-files.

The Bios setup on the Compaq Armada resides on the first 13MB of hard drive space. If you see a logo of Compaq in red but no blinking cursor on the upper right corner, then your hard drive has no access or no setup partition. If you see a blinking cursor on the upper right then press F10 to access the compaq setup. Since HP acquired Compaq their drivers changed hands but are still available. The setup and diagnostics software can be downloaded to floppy disks and/or CD-ROMs.
You will need to know the model of your compaq 7800 it is located in the bottom of the case in this format 6xxx/X/XXXX/X/X/X. the drivers are located herehttp://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/Tec...
Look for Computer Setup and download the Softpaqs to create setup disks.
read this article and look for the PDF article which can help you create the partition on your hard disk here:http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-HP...

Am gettin the message hard drive detects imminent failure (failing attr : 05) i've tryed changing the boot menu to boot from cd but it doesnt show to boot from cd

Your hard drive is about to crash. depending on your model computer, one of the F keys accesses the bios. That is where you will find the boot priority menu so you can change it.

Error Message: F12=Network Service Boot

The BIOS may have reset to the default settings. Sounds like this was originally a workstation on a Corporate Domain Network. Access the BIOS and reset the boot order for CD first, then Hard Drive - you can even disable Network as a boot option. Power spike won't affect the Hard Drive contents, but it can reset a BIOS. Your win2000 should be intact.

I am getting a bue screen-''unmountable boot volume'' and i dont have a disk for my compaq armada 7800

Hi,
There are many reasons behind this one the data cable of the hard drive may be defective the hard drive itself may be defective or the BIOS of the mother board may be corrupted it is recommended to call a tech to resolve the issue as this is a hardware related fault.

My laptop won't boot from cd

to reset the BIOS, there is a small battery somewhere in your computer. if you unplug it for 3 seconds, it will reset the BIOS. I RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT TRY THIS! get a service professional. If this doesn't work you might need to get a new laptop.

Can't get computer to turn on (compaq presario 5000)

Either your Hard drive (hd) crashed or your hd cable or port is faulty. if your software is corrupt boot with a boot disk (assume you are using XP or Vista), press R on the blue options screen. you will be given a black dos prompt screen. Type in fixboot and type Y for an answer.

Toshiba laptop

Typically you'll receive that message if either the hard drive is unbootable (no boot image) or worse, it has crashed.

Enter the bios and check the boot order. Hard drive should be first and also check to see if the hard drive is detected (this info is usually on the first bios page)

Let me know if you have any other questions / problems etc.

Boot up with no operating system

When the system starts, hold the F10 key and go into BIOS and set CD Rom as 1st Boot device (in Boot Order). Because most Compaq's would put the BIOS in a hidden NON-DOS partition on the hard drive, you may have to get an OEM recovery disk for that model. Because there is no BIOS to go to, the machine doesn't know it has a CD, HD or Floppy to go to. A boot floppy/CD is no help. Alternative 1: With another desktop and IDE to Laptop HD connector, FDISK (make active partition and hidden partition [5mb]), Format both, copy the cabs from WinME CD to c:\windows\options. Alternative 2: Find the COMPAQ OEM CD for that model. Since there was no exact model number Click here Please indicate whether this is helpful or not.
