- they said my board was bad but still came on but said could not find op system so put in windowsxp disk started to boot then shut down and thats when it started no screen, comes on for 5 seconds then shuts off bought new board still does it please help thank you
If you bought a motherboard, it should have had a new processor on it. The op system is Windows. If you have an install cd you can reinstall windows. This isn't a hardware problem. When there is a spill, if it is just plain water, it can be allowed to dry and usually be ok. If it is a liquid with sugar, that usually shorts everything out.
The motherboard is bad, you can try taking out the battery and only hooking up the Ac Adaptor to see if the problem goes away but if it doesn't then the motherboard they replaced it with is faulty.
Actually since water was spilled on it beforehand. Take out the hard drive and dvd drive and try powering it up again just to rule out the hard drive or dvd drive shorting out the computer.

- Your motherboard is bad. Plain water can do just as much damage as soda, alcohol or any other liquid. Do the things I suggested and you'll have your answer for sure.

My 14 month old Acer 5920 has been used almost exclusively on mains until last week when I tried to use it on battery. The green light shows the battery to be fully charged (100% shows when I click on the battery icon) but it only lasts for a few minutes use. I can fully charge it at night and by morning it has discharged. I've tried fully charging and then discharging a few times to extend the memory but this is only successful if I use the laptop straight away after charging, and even then it only lasts for about 25 minutes. I am a senior female and have limited technical knowledge
