    Dears,

Actully I understand both your posts but the problem which i did not clarify is >>

when windows come back from hibernation it assume the system is in unmuted state. thus the icon near clock show the volume with no mute sign. and the volume is up but no sound in the system and the sound card is having no problem

the other thing i noticed is and i am not sure about it cause i use hibernate a lot and not shut down and when i lose audio i have to restart the system to get it back. so not everytime i hibernate the system it lose sound only sometimes ?? which make me think that is only happen when i use the keyboard hotkey mute.

the other thing i noticed when this problem happen then the icon near clock does not get updated maybe only silly thing but the icon always remain the same only if i hide it and show it back from control panel then the icon state update and in the options window of audio it always get updated even if the problem happen.

althu i always have sound with no problems only if i mute "maybe from hotkey" and then hibernate the system then i lose the sound until next restart "which i do from time to time but take me couple of days to plan a restart"

for example now i have no sound and i try to uninstall the drivers and install it back and of course it need a restart .. but i rather not to have sound at this point to restart the machine ... i dont have to reinstall the driver to make it come back but i did it yesterday just wishing i could listen to some music while working :(

    Thanks for your time

if you have the mute on then no matter what you won't have sound regardless of whether your laptop is in hibernation mode or not.

After coming out of hibernation, unmute the speaker in the bottom right hand corner and then move the volume bar up and down to verify sound. You should have it again.

When u mute the sound in your system and put it in HIBERNATION windows save this settings and thats the reason why u are not getting any sound so until you start it again the setting will be saved and you have to unmute it so to get the sound. Because HIBERNATION is a windows state which u can say PAUSE AND SAVE your settings and when you start up your system it will be the same settings. Unless and until u completely start it all over the sound would not be coming....

My microphone not working on my dell xps 420 vista system

double click on the speaker and make sure that the mic does not have the mute box with an x in it.

I am pretty certain you have a card in your computer for it mentions a 7.1 speaker system.
If you put your service code in to do a search for drivers you will get the correct ones for your particular machine. Download install and reboot.
If you are not using six speakers and one sub woofer then the pink one in the back is the mic

Help with CD rom the music cd is playing without sound on the media player.

Try to uninstall the Audio driver in your system and restart the system.after restarting install the correct driver for your audio. if this not work maybe there some loss cable connection to your speaker. try to check the system speaker maybe set to "mute". you can double click the volume speaker at the "taskbar" . not see in the taskbar you can go to control panel and click "sounds, speech and audio devices" then click "sounds and audio devices" uncheck the mute box opposite and apply.
