Question about Dell Inspiron 1525 Notebook

Speakers always garbled

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop on Vista Home and have garbled audio through the onboard speakers and even with headphones. I searched for drivers but windows says the right driver is installed. Any fixes for this?

Hi Ben...Ongoing speaker problem with Dell Inspiron 1520 running on Vista....any audio including Microsoft Windows welcome tones are garbled, warbled...that way too when trying to listen to music from I Tunes or Limewire or CD's. Was wondering if that sort of problem is correctible. You mentioned a system restore but would I lose everything in the system like pictures and music downloads on I Tunes or Lime Wire if I do that?

Actually, system restore basically works for loaded software and system fuctionality and normally does not remove items like pictures and such. Losing pictures could be recovered if you keep system "backups" - but the restore feature in Windows is for functionality and not data storage outside of programs installed into the registry. Basically, restore reset the system with the registry settings that worked in the past. Go ahead and use restore back to where they worked, and if that fails, chances are your speakers may have gone bad.... happens a lot with Dell Computer Laptops... in my experience.

Depends on how far back you have to go. Did the sound ever work right? Did you install any programs right before the sound became garbled?

Try to do a system restore back to the last date that you remember it working properly and see if that fixes it.

Do you have any radio or Nextel type device close to your speakers? This will always mess it up.

Boot with an external bootable live operating system cd/dvd (preferably any of the live linux distros) if the audio works, then it is not a hardware issue. just search for the right drivers or worst case scenario format and re-install windows. if you still hear garbled audio, it is a hardware issue.

Yes, as long as you have "Audio out" or even a headphone jack you can use any PC speakers. Find a set that includes a subwoofer, you will like the sound much better.

most likely with the speakers. try to get external speakers or headphones. if same thing happens, update or reinstall your audio driver and try different sources of sounds. if it happens only with streaming audio, most probably, your internet connection is the issue. hope it helps

Speakers are not working in dell inspiron 6000

Please connect an external speaker or headphones and check if you get sound. If sound works then the issue is with the onboard speakers in the laptop.

If sound does not work with the external speakers or headphones then the issue could be with the sound card driver or settings.

Laptop dell inspiron 1525 sound only when headphones connected

If you can here sound in headphones, but not through the speakers, most likely the phone jack switch is bad. The whole jack needs replacement.
Also, in some cases, it could be more then that, like Audio CODEC chip on motherboard is bad, but lets assume the best.

Sound

Windows can only play sound through one device at a time unless you have multiple audio devices, (i.e. USB headphones and onboard soundcard)

Even when you have multiple audio devices, very, very few programs have the ability or need to play the same audio through 2 different devices at the same time.

you can for example though, play winamp through your speakers while playing a vido game in your USB headset. Basically it is possibly to have different audio going the different devices at the same time but it is generally not possible to have the same audio going through different devices at the same time.

Dell inspiron 1520

Try uninstalling the software, then re-install it again and only plug the headphones in when asked to do so, this will enable the program to pick the headphones up and install the correct driver, if windows picks it up as new hardware and tries to install the drivers for it then it will not work correctly.

What version of vista are you using 32 or 64?

Dell Inspiron 6000 PC Audio Ports Damaged

You should have sound from the speakers at all times until headphones are plugged into the jack, the jack then overrides the speakers and allows you to listen using the headphones. If the speakers aren't working, it's because they're being overridden by the damaged jack. The only way to correct this is to replace the faulty jacks. You could get a set of external speakers, the con is they're bulky and inconvenient.
