Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional With Servise Pack 2 (e8503040) for PC
Hi guys, i have just noticed a few things after a recent reformat, invoked by a bad driver
this is regarding Windows XP Service Packs
first of all, when i run the discs, my external hard drive is being targeted for file extraction instead of my main drive and so it takes longer to install than normal, my external hard drive has been assigned to D:
second, when the service pack has finished installing, it does not clean up the files properly, so by the time i finished installed SP2 and SP3 i end up with at least 10GB of unneccessary files on my external hard drive
any way to stop this happening in future?
all help appreciated
(sited from http://www.winxptutor.com/randomfolders.htm)
When you install Windows XP SP1, SP1a or SP2, this temporary folder is created on the volume that has the most free space. The folder name contains random characters, and is not always created on the same volume as the Windows folder. For example, this temporary folder may have the following random names:
This folder is automatically deleted by Windows XP after you install the service pack. However, if the folder is not automatically deleted by Windows XP, you can safely delete this folder.
In most cases, you will receive an Access denied message while accessing or deleting this folder. First, you'll need to Take Ownership of the folder and then delete it safely.
