I have opened the door of my GE JE1390 microwave oven by taking the cover off and pushing the top latch with a screwdriver. The lower latch on the door appears disconnected from the upper one inside the door. Hoe do I remove the fascia inside the door to get to the latch mechanism for replacement??

    Regards;

    Chris

Hello ckaine, what is the model and make of your microwave? with these information, i may be able to get a detailed diagram on how to take it apart.
with GE microwave, all you need do is turn the microwave over to reveal the bottom of it, then take the screw by the door side out, take out the latch and safely take out the latch on the other end.

Door will not close without slamming

Possible causes - door switch, or door switch assembly out of adjustment; plastic latch guides on door switches worn; door hinge worn, causing door to be out of alignment. If it's the last one, the unit needs to be checked for microwave radiation.

I'm unable to open the microwave door on model Sanyo EM-S8586W as it appears the spring is broken. How do I remove the cover so I can replace the spring please?

make this steps and fix it. God bless you

  1. Open leverCheck your microwave lever to determine if it is damaged. If it is broken, simply replace the lever to get your microwave door fully functional again.
  2. Door springResponsible for keeping downward pressure on the door hook, the microwave door spring can begin to malfunction. If this part is broken and prevents you from opening your microwave door, replacement is necessary.
  3. Door latchOne reason your microwave door may not open properly is a broken door latch. Located inside the microwave, the door latch manipulates the door hook to keep the door closed for safety and top performance. If broken, the door could become stuck in the locked position.
  4. Door hookIf your microwave door will not release properly, the door hook could be damaged. Located inside the door, the door hook is made of plastic and prone to breakage with extended use or age. As this part is unable to be repaired, the only option is to replace it.
  5. Button or button springIf the microwave door will not open, it could be an internal failure of the button or button spring. If it is determined that either of these parts is the source, both are replaceable and it is recommended that they be installed at the same time.
  6. Handle actuatorIf the microwave door will not open the plastic handle actuator could be broken. Connected between the door button and the door latch assembly, this plastic part could become damaged and brittle over time, which makes breaking inevitable. If this occurs, replace the handle actuator to get your microwave fully functional again.

Microwave won't start

I have the same problem. Is the light still on inside the microwave? Mine is on and the microwave thinks the door is not shut. I took the top off of the microwave and the latch needs to push down on a switch once shut. The latch was reaching the switch, but I think some spring in the door, pushing the latches down, has broken since it reaches the switch when closed but there isn't any downward force to flip the switch.
I am trying to figure out how to repair the latch but if your light is on when you "shut" the door, you may have the same problem.

I have an Oster DLC-7 food processor. It has always been very hard to close requiring force. The last time I used it, a white plastic part popped off from the back. I don't know whether anything is...

You have a broken the door latch. Most people have the habit of slamming the door shut ( the same way some people hit the enter button on the computer ).With age the plastic becomes brittle and the slamming accelerates its demise. Now connected to this latch is a safety feature which shuts down the Microwave when the door is opened during cooking. So till you replace this latch the microwave will not work. Disconnect the microwave from the power outlet and remove the top cover ( 4 to 5 screws at the back ) , look near the bottom close to the DOOR OPEN button. You will see the rest of the latch with a spring attached to it.Do not attempt to glue the broken piece because the force exerted on the latch is very high and will not hold. You challenge is getting a replacement. Best would be to contact the seller or locate a authorized service center from where you might be able to procure it. It should cost you about 5$.

Goldstar MV1501W not heating or turntable, light/display does wrk

micro switch is bad .remove top vent cover 4 screws, after removing plastic vent panel you will see 1 screw above display time window, remove this screw and lift up the complete button time control panel slightly and pull towards you to remove.there are 2 connections on this panel 1 is a 12 pin connector and a 2 pin power connection remove both put control panel aside.now there are 3 micro switches where the door pins close into the oven lock, remove 2 screws that hold the micro switch housing,on the bottom of housing you will see a small clip gently pull to the right and push back to remove .there are 2 switches on bottom of it and 1 on top. the 1 on top is normally open and closes when door is shut but like mine it stayed open and resulted in (light s display but no turntable)soon as i replaced upper microswitch it runs perfect.i hope this helps .MODEL MV1501W GOLDSTAR

The closed door doesn't always hit the limit switches

I strongly suggest that you do not attempt to adjust the hinges.

The door switch mounts are either cracked or need to be adjusted.

Door switch mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door.

This may be a little more info that you need and it's from a Sharp service manual, but the general principles apply:

1. Disconnect the power supply cord, and then remove outer case.

2. Open the door and block it open.

3. Discharge high voltage capacitor.

If the door sensing switch, secondary interlock switch and monitor switch do not operate properly due to a misadjustment, the following adjustment should be made.

4. Loosen the two (2) screws holding latch hook to the oven cavity front flange.

5. With door closed, adjust latch hook by moving it back and forth, and up and down. In and out play of the door allowed by the upper and lower position of the latch hook should be less than 0.5mm. The vertical position of the latch hook should be adjusted so that the door sensing switch
and secondary interlock switch are activated with the door closed. The horizontal position of the latch hook should be adjusted so that the plunger of the monitor switch is pressed with the door closed.

6. Secure the screws with washers firmly.

7. Check the operation of all switches. If each switch has not activated with the door closed, loosen screw and adjust the latch hook position.

After adjustment, check the following.

1. In and out play of door remains less than 0.5mm when in the latched position. First check upper position of latch hook, pushing and pulling upper portion of door toward the oven face. Then check lower portion of the latch Figure C-3. Latch Switch Adjustments hook, pushing and pulling upper portion of door toward the oven face. Both results (play in the door) should be less than 0.5mm.

2. The door sensing switch and secondary interlock switch interrupt the circuit before the door can be opened.

3. Monitor switch contacts close when door is opened.

4. Re-install outer case and check for microwave leakage around door with an approved microwave survey meter.

Door-activated power switch is loose and/or has a short

Fixed this problem! The door latches were greasy and sticking in the closed position (i.e., pushed down so not latching and engaging fully when the door was closed) and this created the problems described above. Solution was to squirt some Windex into the latch holes to dissolve the grease. The switches popped back into position (must be spring-loaded) and the door closed and latched properly, allowing the oven to function properly. I swabbed out the hole with a q-tip, let it dry for 20 minutes and all is well.

Panasonic - convection/microwave oven door is stuck shut spring will not open same -dinner in oven help

What usually breaks is the door open lever.

On a counter top model, the outer cover will need to be removed to diagnose and repair this. On an over-the-range model, only the control panel needs to be
removed.

Please unplug the oven first.

If you or someone you know wants to look into this, we have critical safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

Once it is apart, you'll be able to see how the door open button would press against the door open lever, which would then lift up against the door latch heads (hook-like projections on the door) and the door should open.

You can order Panasonic parts here.

Siwtch door stuck open,

there is a switch on the front usually inside the back bottom latch it pushes on a switch in the back of it as you close the door.
you have to remove the top cover to get to it.
you can insert a plastic knife to test it. you should hear a click and light should turn off.
it may be jammed or open inside the switch .or wire is off. etc..
