Question about Gateway GT5058 Desktop PC

Gateway GT5058 Geforce 6100 lost red

It's not the FPD 1960 TFT LCD because it and a tested VGA plug test out. This happened a year ago, accidentally did DSK Check, which partitioned off 30G harddrive, but allowed correction. Don't know how. Would cleaning connections inside help? I would like to have a Graphics card which allows for output to my TV's, but my local Wal-Mart, the only supply in the area, only has the GeForce 6200, and that ATI Wonder pro that Best Buy promo tricked me into has been non-funtional from the first week. Any dinasoar repair ideas?

    it is most likley to have the default vga driver
    that is, if it is windows xp.

    now, as for loosing red, have you got any loose pins on the graphics card itself? (i am aware it is holes on one end, but the other end is pins to its board)

    Do you mean you've tested this card with a working VGA monitor and it's still missing red?

    Windows is recognizing the software properly? Go into the device manager and under display adaptor see if its showing the video card properly. If its not then install the software for it and if you need help locating it I'll help you with that.

Yes.. Check to make sure your wires are in good working order, check for loose pins, and make sure there aren't any kinks / tears / breaks in the shielding for the monitor cable.

Also, make sure you have the latest drivers for your graphics card, and that someone hasn't tampered with any color settings on the monitor / graphics setting software (nVidia allows me to adjust color for each individual color... i.e. red, green, blue.. )

Also, i have seen times where KVM's have caused the color to be off. even after removing the monitor from the KVM and testing a new monitor on the KVM, after detaching the KVM, and allowing it to reset (1 minute no power) then reconnecting it with all 4 PC's turned off, the issue went away.


To Recap:
1) Make sure monitor settings are at factory default
2) test the monitor on another PC, if good step 3
3) test different monitor on affected PC, if good, step 4
4) be sure your software settings work for your monitor, and all cables are secure, and free of defects such as kinks, broken shielding, broken wires within the shielding, missing / bent / broken / loose coonector pins.

If all abouve test show the monitor is good on one PC, and bad on another, replace your graphics card to see if this solves the problem, if so, your card may be faulty

At the bottom of the monitor, there are some buttons. Pushing the right-most button (Auto/Set) will enable the automatic configuration to happen. This will "automatically optimize the monitor's image position, clock, and phase."

When i plug in my Gateway FPD1975W TFT LCD Monitor, the screen stays black and the power button blinks. This goes on for hours without doing anything else. Suggestions?


If you have this connected to a computer and it happens,make sure the fault is not with the graphics card or port first. Test the monitor on another computer or laptop. Test and check the VGA cable.
If this is not the problem (ie the monitor will not work on another computer and another monitor will work on your computer), you are probebly having power capacitor problems and the monitor needs replacing.

I have a gateway desktop monitor with the model number FPD 1960 TFT LCD COLOR MONITOR. The power does not come on after you switch on. When I opened and checked I discovered that power does not go into...


So you can see at least two bad caps, then you need to replace them, there should be a set of caps for the 5v power supply for the logic circuits and the set of caps for the16~18 vdc power supply for the backlights inverter circuits.

Everything is plugged in and turned on. worked two nights ago. was shutoff and has not been used during that time. lcd light is orange. if unplug says self-test. what else can i do


Most likely a cable or video card issue. If its a video car, try hooking it to your computers motherboard vga spot. If it works then you know its a video card. Another thing to try is to run another source to it. When its lit orange, thats a standby mode meaning its not recieving a signal from the source. Good luck.

Gateway FPD1960 19" CD has a red tint to all oc screen when I turn it on.


Make sure your VGA cable is seated properly. If it is seated OK, it could be the start of a problem with a backlight. When a backlight goes bad, it typically shows up as pink/red color where white should be displayed.

It sounds like the monitor whose writing comes up in pink has a problem with the RGB usually IC driven and all of them sound like they have faulty power supply boards. Will investigate further and give a more detailed answer. Hope this helps for the time being.
