Question about Dell Inspiron 1720 17" Widescreen Notebook, 2.0GHz INTEL CORE 2 DUO, WiFi, 3GB RAM, 640GB, CDRW/DVDR... (883585945788)
I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop, running Windows Vista. The DVD drive is the factory drive.
I was watching a DVD when the Windows Media player froze. I thought it was a memory problem, so I closed the player and re-opened it. When I opened the player again, it didn't detect the disc in the drive. When I go up to My Computer, it says there is no disc. When I ejected the disc and put it back in, it didn't make the whirring sound that it usually does. I've tried rebooting as well, but it didn't help.
I'm not super handy at tech stuff, so I'm out of ideas. Help, please?
May be the lens of the drive has gone bad...Replacing the drive will fix the issue..

Go to your device manager and see if there is a problem there, go to:
start/control panel/device manager/cd,dvd then click on the + sign to open up your device. right mouse the device then click on properties, check to see if it is working properly and that it is enabled. then try to update the device driver
if you cant find a problem there scan it with driver detective at
good luck, hope this fixes your problem
