it is usually to do with the calibration of the tape locks, sometimes it is to do with the tension on the tape being too loose,so check the tapes are wound sufficiently and if this problem persists, have it seen to by a professional engineer.
There are two possibilities for failure; the remote itself and the receiver in the recorder.
Many service shops have a simple device that will reveal if the remote is putting out any signal at all.
If it does, the output is probably correct; they don't often fail by screwing up the coded infra-red signal.
If the remote seems to be working, then your problem lies with the receiving end inside the recorder.
2 months ago my R15-500 stopped working. The "Record"(yellow) light was dim on the front of the DVR and a lightly audible clicking noise could be heard from inside the DVR. So I searched the internet and found this FIXYA site. I disassembled the DVR as instructed and removed the power board. Sure enough the Capacitors were bulging on top. I replaced all of the capacitors on the power supply output, I think 6 altogether. I reassembled the unit and it worked great.
I found that there IS a manual release for the disc tray
UNDERNEATH the unit. It is a sort of toggle lever that you have to
slide to the other side and that releases the disc. The Manual does not
even mention this manual release lever!
Also, it may be hidden or covered by a paper like cover.
Had same problem. Found online handbook for DS-4000 and page 37 pointed way.
Press menu button on the handset.Go to sub menu. Page 37 of online handbook suggests you can lock and unlock from this but I used the format icon on the submenu to reformat the card. Seems to be working fine now.
