Does diet drinks and sweetners cause wieght gain

Artificial sweeteners do have a calorific value but it is very low and normal use would have a negligible effect on your weight.

Diet drinks on the other hand, usually contain no added sugar. In many cases that doesn't mean they are sugar free as the fruit syrup that is the basis of the flavouring will contain some natural sugars. Again in normal use as part of a calorie-controlled balanced diet the effect will be negligible.

Does it matter if I drink Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi for my diet?

Both drinks are diet sodas without any sugars or calories, so they both would work just fine for your diet. It's just a matter of taste; they both have pretty much the same nutritional values.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of drinking diet soda?

Diet sodas are definitely healthier than regular sodas, but they have their disadvantages as well. The advantages are:

They don't contain any sugar- you won't gain weight from them and they won't raise your blood levels.

They contain a very low amount of calories- you can drink few servings of diet sodas without having to worry about the calorie count.

The disadvantages of diet sodas are:

They are not as sweet as the regular sodas, which some people will have hard time to get used to.

Artificial sweeteners used in sodas pose several health risks. For example, aspartame has been linked to causing cancer, Alzheimer, and birth defects.

Diet sodas can actually make you gain weight (indirectly) because people who drink it tend to look for sugars from other types of food.
