Re: Broken scanner glass
You can go thru Xerox possibly but they would probably have you send it in and charge you outrageously.
If you knew how to take apart the scanner I would suggest taking a tape measure and measure the exact size of the glass and then maybe go to a glass place and have them cut one to size for you.
Not sure what the costs would be but if this scanner is one of those where you like it alot and can't do without it then at least this could be an option and you can then put the new glass in and put the scanner back together.
I know this might seem weird but at least its worth a shot and maybe getting a piece of glass is less expensive then sending it in to xerox to get serviced.

Using your scanner program such as PaperPort, you really have to pay attention on where the document/photo is located for scanning.
Steps 1. Click on Start, Programs, Paperport 2. Right above the Word "SCAN", you will have several options on; a. Document or Photo b. Flatbed or Feeder 3. Once step 2b has been selected, the M20i will scan your document per your instructions.
Note:#1 If you place your document on Flatbed but your selection on your screen says "Feeder" where do you think the scanner will look for your document? The answer is --> Feeder!!!
Note #2 Make sure that you click Accept,& DONE, other wise M20i will just sit and wait for your next command.
I hope this resolves the confusion between GLASS and FEEDER scanning.
You need to clean the scanner. You can try doing the shading adjustment to calabrate the scanner but most likely the mirrors are hazed up. Since you can print fine you eliminate the laser.
To do the shading adjustment, you need to press in order,,, Menu # 1934, You will see a " T "on the screen, that will be the tech mode. Press the machine status, then go to maintenance, then scroll to shading. Place 5 sheets of white paper on the glass and then run the shading adjustment. turn the machine off and on, and run copies again. But most likely you will have to take the scanner off and clean it.
If you want to clean the scanner let me know, I will send you directions on how to do that. The mirrors in that scan head tend to haze up.
Most likely not going to find just the glass. Go to google and search for " the parts drop" they will be the first item in your search. Call them and ask for Britt, he will work with you to get what you need at a very fair price.
1. Oprn the front door, as if to replace the toner and remove the 2 screws above the toner and drum.
2. Turn the machine around. Disconnnect the one connector to the document feeder. A beige molex connector, lift and remove the feeder.
3. Remove the 6 screws from the back cover, remove the cover.
4. Disconnect the white ribbon cable and black connector with red wires attached to the upper part of the main board.
5. Under the scanner body, on the rear of the machine, locate the 3 screws that hold the scanner to the frame. One on the right, on in the middle and one on the left.
6. Grasp the scanner from the sides and pull back to release the scanner tabs from teh frame.
Once the scanner is removed you then have to remove the 3 screws holding the control panel to the scanner, then the 5 screws that hold the frame holding the glass. I am not sure where you can get that glass. But do a google search for "the parts drop". Give them a call, ask for Britt and see if he can come up with one for you.
