Why is screen blank?

You never said if it worked with external monitor. You also didn't say if you tried the [fn]+[Fx] key combination on the keyboard to try and switch displays.
But, if you look at the screen closely, at an extreme angle and can faintly see the graphics then that means the backlight has blown out. For the displays with LED backlighting it's usually just a wire or circuit to repair. For the screens with CCFL (fluorescent) lighting it's a simple matter of replacing the inverter board.

POST beeps are almost always indicative of RAM failures, so if you've already reseated it, the next step would be to try another memory module to see if the issue goes away. Keep in mind some notebooks have more than one RAM module as well (sometimes there's one under the keyboard and one on the underside of the unit)

Black screen

Sounds like your screen is being switched to "Power Save" mode due to inactivity. This should switch back when the mouse is moved. This can take several seconds on a laptop. You can remove this "Power Save" by right clicking anywhere on blank desktop, select "Properties", "Screen Saver" and "Power Settings" then select "Always On" for the monitor.

How to install win xp in toshiba portage r200 laptop

This is resolved by installing Intel Storage Manager drivers through "F6" option on XP Setup. YOU MUST HAVE AN EXTERNAL FLOPPY DISK (A Drive)...as the Portege doesn't come with one...and XP does not support USB or CD ROM for this particular function.

Repair installation

Sorry to cover the basics but you cant be too careful. have you set your bios to boot from cd? Also when the cd tries to load you should have to tap any key to go into it. If all these thing are covered you have two more likely faults. 1. Faulty Ram. 2.Faulty drive
