This is likely part of the defrosting feature and if it is always hot, the defrost timer has failed and is keeping the seals hot.
The defrost timer is normally located behind the lower grillwork and many are equipped with a slotted shaft that can be turned with a flat-bladed screwdriver. The slot will also let you see if the clock motor inside is running. You would need to mark it and give it time since these things rotate only once every 12-24 hours.

What would make our maytag side by side drip water up top near the freezer side. I just noticed today that the door on frig side doesn't seem to be closing tight. Anything we can do?

not sure what is blocking your door from closing tight. there are adjustment screws on the top of the door hinges under the plastic caps that align the doors.(they are there on my maytag side by side). the water could be from some ice buildup in side the housing at the top of the inside of your fridge where the flap opens up to send cold air from the freezer to the fridge, especially if your door has not been closing properly that will ice up trying to keep the fridge cold. remove everything from your fridge, unplug it and take a blow dryer to that housing to remove any ice buildup on the flap then plug it back in. there are also diagnostic checks you can do using the temperature control buttons to test if the flap is working properly as well. they are in your owners manual.

Can I replace the freezer door seal on a kitchen aid myself?

some door gaskets snap into a track and others are held on to by screws in a metal frame. you can pull the back of the gasket apart to see which you have.

are you sure that the gasket is bad? you can do the dollar bill test by placing a dollar bill between the gasket and door frame and shutting the door. if the dollar bill fits snugly and is not loose the gasket is good. However you may be able to look at your gasket and see that it is torn or warped and not sealing good.

replacing the door gasket can be a little tricky but with a little patience and some very hot water to soak the new gasket in to make it easier to work with, you should be ok.

keep the bottom of your refrigerator and freezer frames clean (this is where everything spills and gets sticky) to keep the gasket from sticking to the frame and tearing up over time.

Panel between doors is hot

Many models of refrigerators have a heating element around where the gasket seals to the fridge. This is to prevent ice buildup around the doors that would prevent the doors from closing all the way.
If you haven't noticed any other problems with the cooling of your unit, you're refrigerator is running exactly the way it was designed.

GC5SHEXNQ02 Whirlpool 2door ref - Panel gets hot

I am not going to say the problem is normal. Normal operation those strips are placed behind the metal and inside the walls around the door seals to prevent moisture or sweating around the doors. They are usually noticed to become hot when there is a change in the control boards operation. Some brands have the hot gas from the condenser circulating around the doors. If your model has an economy switch, switch it on. I would look for any abnormal operation of the refrigerator like compressor or condenser fan stopping or ice buildup or abnormal temperatures in the fresh food compartment. If this continues I would unplug the refrigerator and open the control panel inside the fresh food section and examine both sides of the control board for signs of heat or burn marks on both sides. May not be anything to be concerned about also because this may be the first time you noticed this. But it should not be too hot to touch. Sea Breeze

Why does my maytag fridge drip water around the freezer door?

Freezer door frames have a small heating element in them to stop that happening. Your element is failed.

Torn gasket seals just cause frost inside, but also cause the compressor extra stress if the seal is bad. This causes the compressor to keep running as yours does. They are cheap to buy and easy to fit.

With a 12 year old one, it is probably time for a new one. The new ones are more energy efficient and are cheaper to run.

Fridge Condensation

Check the seal of the rubber gasket, if there are improper seal of the magnet, pour hot water along it to soften the rubber. (be careful when handling hot water). When the rubber is soften, try to stretch it a little by pulling it. close the door and the magnet will keep the seal in place.

Outside freezer hot and seals

Fridge has either mullion heaters around door or most likely steel pipes just inside the skin of the perimeter of the door, this is to stop ice or condensation forming around the door seals, mainly the freezer, they are part of the condenser circuit ( hot part of the refrigeration system).
It is normal for these to get hot, but in your case may be hotter than usual because of the constant running, the running may be caused by hot ambient temperatures, system being slightly short of refrigerant, faulty thermostat or in-efficient compressor.
I suggest if temp is ok inside fridge dont worry too much, if you notice fridge starts loosing its capacity to refrigerate, have a refrigeration tech look at it.

550 Door Seal Doesn't Seem to Be Working

Since the doors on most refrigerators are adjustable, check the alignment of the door by pushing it close to being closed and seeing if the crack still visible is consistent around the three sides not yet in contact with the frame. These normally don't change much over the life of the unit but you may be able to improve the contact through an adjustment. Considering that the door does not seem to want to stay closed, check too on the hinge side to see if that part of the gasket is striking the frame too early.

Frost inside freezer door

there is a small electric heater along the door gasket where you see the frost building up, this heater has apparently stopped working. this will also cause the door to pop open due to a poor seal. feel around where the door gasket contacts the refrigerator and it should feel a little warm. if not then a service company can replace those heaters. should not be too expensive.
