By almost balck do mean you can kinda see an image but it is really dull??... well if so it means the backlight tubes are gone..in most small screens including laptops the backlights are micro flurensent tubes..the have a small inverter supply....usually located at the base of the screen...so take out prbably four screw located more than likely under rubber pads on the face of the screen and pull the outside panel off.....you should see the screen unit and a small PCB below it and it should have a mini Transformer with a conector comming off of it with a Pink wire and a white wire...this goes to the tubes! make sure using a muti-meter there is voltage at those pins...im not sure how much but if there is none it means inverter supply has died...you should be able to get a replacement...contact an electronics store or supplier .....if there is voltage then the tubes have gone(which is the most common fault!) again im sure where you can source them from in your country but try electronic stores or contact the tech department of the manufacturer of the unit they should have some in stock!

It can, but unless you have a real good DVD player, it will cost more to fix. It doesn't show you model so I can only give you limited help.
If you paid over $100.00 and it is a HD or Blue -Ray, then you can take it to a repair shop. If not, it would be better to go shopping for what you will pay out to have it fixed.
I am sorry if that is not what you wanted to hear, but, thank you for the chance to help.

Testimonial: "I figured as much. Thanks for the help. Looks like I'm off to the store. Great to have such a quick opinion."
This usually indicates a failure in the backlight power supply. We have an article posted on our web site at: http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/capacitors/ that explains what goes out and what will need to be replaced to complete the repair. You can also post a few pictures of the power boards to our forum section at: http://www.ccl-la.com/forum/index.php Our techs will then contact you about the parts that have failed. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we do offer a repair service, that information can be found here:http://www.ccl-la.com/blog/index.php/service-request-form/
I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.
