Question about Canon ZR200 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

Grey lines across video display

Original problem was camcorder was rejecting tapes. So based on troubleshooting advice 'dropped' camcorder to correct. Like advised, after a few drops the camera once again accepted the tape...however now in playback mode the display has grey lines that cross horizontally across the screen. They are only there when the video plays, not with still images or when video is stopped and battery charge etc is still visible. Any thoughts?

Thanks...got it working ! First tried cleaning heads but that didn't work. Then after you asked if the lines were there when I was taping I tried it..taped...then on playback the lines had disappeared. Went back to other tapes and alas they were clear too....what do you know?!!

    Thanks again!!

Why doi have grey lines across my Sharp camcorder VL z7 when It on play back. Theres sound breakage as well. Can someone tell me why?

Do you get the grey line when you play back incamera ?
Have you transferred the file outside the camcorder ?

If you get the grey line in both, invariably the recording head needs cleaning.

Power on the ViewCam.
Eject the tape.
Use a soft lint free cloth and generally clean the head.
The head of the large metallic cylindrical thing placed slightly titled.
It is right at the bottom of the camera beyond those small posts.
If your finger cannot approach, use a swab with mild spirit/alcohol.
Let it dry a minute and then record a fresh material and try.
Please reply if it helped or not.

On my cannon digital video camcorder ( model MV730i) i am trying to play back some footage i have taken but on the view finder (and also on my computer when i transfer footage over) the picture is coming...

Possibly dirty head and/or dirty tape.Maybe even wear-out tape,too.
But the worst scenario would be faulty or damaged head, which would be not worth repair it.

Grey Lines across video display

Same thing is happening to mine, it's not the minidv because i tried that one on a diffrent camera and it works fine. It's got to be a setting or something. If anyone can figure it out, that would be great.

Grey lines

I have had this problem myself, and it is nothing more than a head cleaning issue, from my experience. Sometimes, when a head cleaner will not work, the camera requires proper maintenance. The problem arises through long pauses, and over time. A suggestion for better use perhaps, would be to not pause tape for too long when playing back. Based on personal experiences.

Grey lines across the screen

Does this happen on all dvs tapes? If so then it is a problem with the head reader of the cam, but if only one tape, then that tape is either has quite an old recording on it or the tape is damaged.

5 Grey Horizontal Lines across the screen during play back and distorted sound.

Someone here recommended on another post to put the lense cap on & videotape the blackness in a quiet room for 5-10 mins. I tried this as a last resort & it worked. When I played back the tape, no more skipping or gray lines. I had 4-5 SOLID gray lines with skipping video & audio in between on every tape I put in. I think the person who helped me solve this said that it was a result of the tape alignment going off. My camera is a Canon zr80 digital camcorder. (Called Canon, they had me reset it & then recommended sending it in).
