Question about Toro Lawn Mower With Toro Power Tools

Toro mower won't start

When i started mowing, it ran for about 5 minutes and stalled. it would not restart, so after it cooled i checked the spark plug. it was pitted, so i bought a new one and replaced the old one. it still won't start. gas is getting through, but it doesn't even trigger. the only noise it makes is the whirring of the cord retracting.

my oil level was too high. i drained it, cleaned the plug. i don't know how to check for spark, but the plug was oily when i cleaned it.

I think if you remove the rope pulley you'll find that the shaft connector has failed; look under the mower to see if the blade moves when you pull the start rope; but, only after the spark plug wire has been removed...

OK check your oil level; too much oil can foul your sparkplug clean the plug base with alcohol and, replace your sparkplug crank and, check for spark; do you have clean new fuel if this doesn't work we have bad valve timing or, bent valves let me know

Have a self-starting, self propelled toro lawn mower about 5 years old, I ran it out of gas by accident & now it won't start

It seems to be an obstruction in your fuel delivery system. Get a can of ether and a spray a short burst of it into the breather area near the carburetor, if the mower starts up and then stalls out, then you may need to get your carburetor serviced.

Mower starts good but only runs 5 minutes befor stalling out and won't start again until cool. It idles OK when blade is NOT engaged. Cause? And how do you set the carb adjustment screws to max. p

No adjustment for carb on newer mowers. All mowers now have a low oil cutoff. Ensure oil is full. 30w oil. If any grey is observed vin oil drain all oil. Moisture in oil. Dump old oil out every 2 yrs and refill. Ensure spark pluf is clean and gapped correctly. Ensure air filter is clean. Replace spark plug and air filter each year. Always use Stabile in gas. Spray outside of carb with carb cleaner to ensure proper choke movement.

Does the mower die right away (cuts out) or does it sputter to a halt. Sputtering out would indicate a fuel problem. If it just cuts out when hot, then more likely an ignition problem. Your coil may need replacing. Take a close look at the coil wire (spark plug wire) and its routing. Make sure it's not touching part of the engine where it's heating up and has caused a "leak" to ground it out when it gets hot. If all is well then check your spark when the engine is hot and cuts out. Make sure you have a very good blue spark and not a weak one (check it cold first and then compare!). Again, indicating a possible ignition coil problem. Hope this helps and best of luck to you.

What is wrong with a Toro GTS5 that starts well but dies 5-10 seconds later. I have changed the spark plug, air filter and oil. New gas too. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I had a similar problem. I'll bet I took off the carb. 5 - 6 times and cleaned it with no success. Very fustrating! One time while checking the fuel level I accidently left off the gas cap, I started it and while running I put the gas cap back on and started to mow and about 10 seconds it died. I thought could'nt be! So I loosened the cap, restarted and it kept running. Any way the small vent hole was plugged. Thats my story!. Good luck.

My cub cadet won't stay running. I can mow for a will and it just sputters, and or dies. I let it cool off for about 10 minutes. It starts right up after it cools. It also starts to smoke when it gets...

Similar issue - buddies CubCadet with Kohler Courage 22 would not stay running. Turned out the coils got rusty where it interacts with flywheel. cleaned the contacts (be careful to shim for proper spacing) and ran like a top.

My toro started ran for 5 minutes and died...like it ran out gas

It sounds like it is time to replace the ignition module from what you are saying. The motor heats up and the electrical in the module open up.
I would check the spark plug as well and stay away from resistor type plugs.

Good Day.
