Question about Crosley CAWC529JQ Top Load Washer

Washer makes grinding noise when it agitates

The washer fills and drains fine. It makes a loud grinding noise when it starts agitating. After a minute it stops, making the noise only intermittently. The same thing happens during the rinse cycle.

SOURCE: extra loud noise when spinning

most likely the main spin bearing at the top of the transmission just below the spin basket and seal

the bearings dontjust go out for nothing either, you will need to be replacing the tub kit seal also

not the easiest of repairs, may need special tools to remove the seal nut assembly...

SOURCE: Spin Cycle/Machine makes noise and moves

You can't tight up the tub. You should replace the damper pads that located beneath main support housing on base's machine. Goog luck !

SOURCE: I think my washing machine just died!!!

The transmission could well have caused the failure but the smoke was almost certainly from the drive motor.
The cost of replacing them both is probably prohibitive.

Unless you are really into preserving the environment (and your machine) it may be time to retire it.

I don't know where you are but I would estimate the cost of the transmission at $120-150 US and the motor at $60-100 only for parts.

With the growing complexity of many machines, I tend to stick with those using older technology and keep my fingers crossed that they have not cheapened the quality too much.

As we equipped a new house 3 years ago, I did a lot of research and found essentially no machine that was 'bullet-proof.'

We finally bought Roper machines and have not had any complaints to date but have a small household so not much stress on the machines.
Roper has been owned by Whirlpool for years but my experience with direct Whirlpool branded machines really stinks; refrigerator died due to a low-voltage condition that occurred while we were gone requiring a new comperessor, washing machine thatate its transmission in < 3 years, etc.
All were purchased new.

SOURCE: agitates and drains but will not spin

Hi, there is a lid pressure switch that controls the motor during the spin cycle. if the lid is up, it will close open the circuit that controls the motor and it will shut the spin down.

Now, if this lid switch is broken or lose, it will not allow the spinning action at all. your lid pressure switch is damaged or lose at this time. i recommend inspecting this switch that is located under the lid rim. check the wires and connection clips for a lose fit. if the wires and clips are in good condition, this Will confirm the switch failure. replace in this case. i will link you to a replacement switch you can order on line if you choose.

Whirpool lsq9244eqo fills and drains but does not spin or agitate

It sounds like the agitator gripping teeth are worn out. To check this, take the agitator cap off with a strong knife or flat-head screw driver, pull the cap off and check the plastice teeth and four plastic hooks that grab the teeth. If they are worn out, then you will have to replace the agitator. To replace it, you will see a nut that is between the circlular teeth. Unscrew the nut and pull the agitator up hard.

KitchenAid washer Model#KAWS700jqsr fills but won't agitate

if it's making a loud buzzing noise while its suppose to be agitating or spinning its the motor coupling

Terrible noise when agitating

Your transmission has gone out. The reason the spin cycle works is because the transmission spins two different ways and you agitate way stripped the gear. Some places rebuild them. Try with your local stores maybe they can rebuild it or get you a good used one. If not you can order a new one from sears.com

Broken Washer

it could be the direct drive coupling that connects the motor to the transmission. fill it up with water and see if it will agitate, if it will NOT agitate then it is a good chance that this is the problem. 0404472.jpg

worse case scenario is the transmission is bad, but this is unlikely.

If your washer fills, agitates, drains, but will not spin, the likely cause is the gear case (transmission). A new gear case can run about $200 just for the part. With labor, this could be a bit expensive to repair. I hope this helps you some.

Grinding niose from agitator.

If the fill and drain functions correctly, AND the spin cycle works correctly, AND the cycle itself starts and completes correctly, the problem being that the back and forth motion of the agitator starts the loud grinding noise, it will likley be broken gears in the transmission. The single most expensive part in the washing machine.
