I have a sticky substance on the plate of my iron. What can I do to clean it?

You have to find a solvent that will cut the sticky substance from the soleplate. Depending on what it is, try alcohol, ammonia, mineral oil or naphta (as in lighter fluid). Do not combine these chemicals. Warming the soleplate (warm enough not to burn your fingers) may help.

Good luck from Detroit, MI.

Something is stick on ironing surface, how do i clean it?

the best way to get sticky stuff off of the iron surface would be to plug the iron in and let it warm up -- then with warm water use a green or red scotch-brite* pad and scrub it clean -- ( be careful not to burn yourself -- double up the pad )..
if the stuck on stuff is really on there, you can also use a razor blade ( safety blade* ) and at a good angle scrape the sticky stuff off -- ( do this while the iron is off and cold ).

How do I clean sticky stuff on the iron plate?

when unplugged and cool, most manufacturers have a sole plate cleaning kit. Try warm water and soap to begin with to remove starch, detergent buildup, burnt synthetic fibers etc. Don't use household cleaners or solvents.

Sticky substance on iron plate

get some of the Rowenta remover, YOu put it on your sole plate when Iron is warm. I use an old facecloth, put some on the cloth, then drag the iron side ways or back and forth. Then a clean towel to clean, when it does nto remove, i put some directly on the iron, does a pretty great job.. keep up with the stuff. If you are using fusible things when you Iron, you set yourself up with sggrivation, but a teflon cloth from a quilt store or on line,.It is used for applique and works great.

Water Leaking

The seal between the top and the bottom plate has lost it's integrity. First try tightning the 2 screws on the underside of the iron. If that doesn't fix the problem, then you will need to take the iron apart and fix the seal. That will require you to remove those 2 screws and also a third screw that is up by the toe of the iron underneath the sprayer. You will then need to slowly pull the 2 pieces apart becasue the seal is made of a sticky rubber substance. Once you get it apart, you can then distribute the seal material to cover the bad area. Then just put it back together!
