Dual Monitors - why does my second monitor have bad picture?

As long as something isnt broken, using the HDMI and the D-Sub should be fine. From your fuzzy pictures I suggest that you want to double-check your cables.

Have you tried to switch it? If you put the second monitor on the D-SUB and the picture is still faulty, its very likely the problem is your monitor.

I am trying to connect a second monitor a dell E173FP to my computer. I run Windows 7. My computer is not detecting the second monitor.

If you have a dual-head video card, you will need to go into display properties where you should see 2 monitors. One will be grayed out. You need to right-click on that one and tell the computer that it's connected. Then you can set it up.

What cables would I need to set up a second monitor & set up my TV as a second monitor as well I have a BENQ 2201

First you will need to determine if your computer is capable of running multiple monitors. Some computers will have two video ports on the back of the video card allowing two monitors to be connected while some cards will have a Y cable that allows two connections.
Second, you will need to determine the type of connection that your TV will accept. Most TVs that I have dealt with will at least have a VGA port.

Horizonal line in monitor screen cant seem to adjust

Try the following steps:
  1. On the monitor, press Menu, and select Factory Reset.
  2. If the monitor has more than one type of connection available such as VGA, DVI, or HDMI, try a different type of connection.
  3. Connect the monitor to another computer. If the line appears when the monitor is connected to the second computer, the monitor might be damaged or defective.Otherwise, the video card and driver is causing the problem from the computer. ry the following steps:
    1. On the monitor, press Menu, and select Factory Reset.

    3. Connect the monitor to another computer. Monitor comes on,then goes off after a couple of seconds.Checked the circuit board but found no problem, feel that the screen might be faulty, please help.

Hi,
This could indicate some component overheating/damaged. I haven't worked on a monitor like yours, but on several occassions I noticed that the problem was caused by blown capacitors. This can usually be spotted if you inspect the capacitors on the logic board carefully. If they are bulging or you can see black goo "leaking" from them then they need replacing. Other than that, troubleshooting of other components on the logic board is far too complicated to describe here.
Hope this helps,
Raf

If you can successfully connect another (second) monitor to your notebook and the Flatron will not work in the notebook I would be suspicious that this new monitor has a problem. Check for bent pins in the connector.

If you have not previously connected a second monitor to your notebook use the Fn key and toggle the key on your notebook that switches between the notebook screen and the external monitor. (The key that has the image of 2 monitor screens, might be F4). If the new monitor then works it would point to a problem on the old 1.3Ghz.

Monitor goes black for a few seconds

Try swapping the monitor cable from the working monitor to the other video connection on your computer. Effectively reversing the connections to isolate whether your problem is the video card in your computer or the monitor itself. If you find the working monitor displaying similar symptoms, then check your video drivers and ensure that you have all power saving features, screen savers, etc... turned off.

Duel monitor

Which connector are you currently using? They should be white and blue.(hint: the blue is VGA, the white is DVI). If you're using the VGA connector on both monitors, you will need to purchase an DVI to VGA adapter. Fairly common and can be found online for less than $5 here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814998101

Now, if you're wanting to use two DVI monitors, you'll need to buy a video card that has two DVI connectors already on it, as you cannot convert VGA to DVI.

Connecting second monitor

Not sure If I am understanding this correctly, you are trying to connect a monitor to a monitor? I have never heard of that before. As far as I know you need a video card that has dual output to use dual monitors. I am not saying you can't do what I think you are saying but I never heard of that before. Also on a side note depending on the resolution and amount of colors your operating system is set on, you need a video card strong enough to drive both monitors.
