Question about Panasonic PT-47WX42 47" Rear Projection Television

Convergence intermittently bad

Change out chips check all the resistors and found the problem still there.....

I got a can of freeze spray and sprayed the little board right next to the convergence chips, picture went good and looks great....lasted about 20 minutes, then I sprayed the board again....imidiately the picture went good again....been an hour still going, how long who knows......

What is the small board next to the convergence chips?????

Is their a place I can get one or a known fix for it?????

No I am not talking about the heat sink........and i did put the compound between the chip and the sink.....

Problem is the small board that is right by the heat sinks.....

The board is a vertical mounted, probably about 2x3 inchs....

When the convergence starts going bad, I just spray that board with my freeze spray.....than the picture looks great....

It usaully lasts from 1 hour to a couple of days.............

I know its that board........but i need information on that board and if i can get one....looks like it plugs in to the main board...

Are you talking about the heat sink?  The chips normally screw on to this "board" you're talking about? (silver, aluminum looking?)  I dont want to speculate here but did you use heat sink compound (also know as thermal grease)on the chips?  If so, the answer to your question for a known fix would be: you have a heat problem and all you might need to do is get some 5 dollar heat sink compound and get a quick fix.  Meaning, apply some of that stuff between the chips and the heat sink.

Horizontal red convergence jumps out after 10 seconds

This could be a transistor fault on the convergence board. You can diagnose with a can of freeze spray.

Freeze Spray works because of the way silicon chips such as transistors fail. If they are intermittent, then they'll work okay when cold. But as they heat up they'll flip to a failed status. A quick blast with Freeze Spay cools the component quickly enough to revert it back to its working status for a few seconds. That's long enough with a fault like yours to see the convergence flick back to good.

You'll have to work out for yourself where the convergence board is though.

The resistors are all marked with bands which denote the value---just check them with a ohm meter===no need to replace out of hand.

When you replace the chips: remove all the old white grease and apply fresh heat sink compound (thermal transfer grease.

I see lots of people who want to "change everything" and usually get in trouble----for the most part these parts are either good or bad.

You will need the original Hitachi remote when done to adjust convergence in the Decam mode.

your convergence output amps are done...
you have to do repair on the convergence output circuit, and inspect
the power supply for any damages.

How to replace the converge ic

Your convergence IC's have gone bad. There are 2 of them, you should go ahead and change both while you have it apart..

These IC's operate at a very high temp, and usually only last 4-5 years.
If you remove the back of the set, you will want to look for the BIGGEST heatsink in there, on that heatsink, you will see 2 lage IC's , probably STK392-110, or STK392-120's or something close...regardless - you can go on ebay to order the new ones, but MAKE SURE they are Genuine SANYO IC's and not counterfiet cheapies. the cheap ones may last 2 years, or only last 2 minutes..
You will also need some "Heat transfer paste" - you can pick this up at radio shack.

Once you remove the old IC's, using a solder ****** (radio shack will have this as well...) test all the large resistors near them.. pull one side of the resistor out of the board so you can check it out of circuit. they will usually have the value in Ohms, printed directly on the resistor, but you may have to use the resistor color code to find out what value they are....However, usually if there is any damage, the resistor will look like it has been very HOT or fried. replace the IC's and any bad resistors, and you should be good to go.

If after replacing the IC's and any defective resistors, the convergence is still bad, make sure to use a multimeter to check ALL fuses on the boards, --- sometimes when the IC's go, they will take out a fuse to the convergence power supply. If you find any bad fuses, replace them accordingly!

If this STILL doesnt make it look right, you will need to find out how to get into service mode and do a coarse convergence adjustment. This information can be found in the Service manual for your set. If you dont have one you can download it at

Hope that helps!

No crosshair on manuel convergence

It may be the fluid in the CRT or convergence chips are bad.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick email and they will put one together for you. Their kits includes photo instruction guides, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Convergence problem???

Check the resistors by the STK ic's, should be 2.2 ohms. Under the heat sink, also check the 1.8 Ohm 1W, fusible resistors found around the area as well.
Good Luck.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site They have put together convergence repair kits for most models.

The kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, etc. Everything you will need to do the repair yourself.

Convergence (red) is out of alignment

In your red convergence you have vertical and horizontal, pin, lines and etc. It sounds like you have a bad resistor in one of the areas. You would need to know which area to narrow down. Are you could look and see the problem, just look on crt board. I would take a can of Freeze and spray the board resistors until it changes then you could narrow down quicker.

Update and a few questions (Convergence Problems - VS-55601 55 in Projection)

yes, they go bad interment because they have a large current go thru them and they generate heat, they are mounted on a heat sink with white silicone to help disapate heat. replace both not just one, try MCM Electronics get heat sink compound also
