External hard drive emits noise and disconnects within 60 seconds

My LaCie 500 GB external hard drive (Design Neil Poulton model) used to work fine but now every time i connect it to any computer it will emit a rattling noise within 30 seconds and illegally disconnect itself within about a minute of that happening. This problem occurs whether i attempt to move files onto the drive or not! I am using a Mac with 450 GB partitioned to work on that and about 50GB available for PC compatible space. I have a Kanguru QS2 500g External Hard Drive that has a mind of its own. Sometimes it will make a beep and then disconnect itself. Following this, I usually have to connect and re-connect it several times before it stops doing this. Sometimes it works for a long period of time. However the main problem is that it can randomly disconnect at any time.
How can I make the connection stable and not have to worry about it randomly disconnecting?

I dont see the drive in my computer

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools ,computer management ,device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or
if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver
just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again, sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems
hope this helps

I need to install lacie stup assistant.or download

Hello,
LaCie Setup assistant is made to make it easier for the customer.
If you do not have it, you can format your drive using your MAC or PC and you can download manual and utilities from the LaCie website, which are the only things the assistant really does.

Lacie 1T Poulton design external hard drive is clicking

Before you resort to freezers and desperation, know that the external power supplies for these things are a. crucial and b. delicate. If the output voltage is down for any reason, it can produce the same clicking symptoms. I would get to a repair shop, and ask them to test the drive with a 'known good' power supply. I did so this very morning with a LaCie drive: no more clicking, happily mounting drive...and power supply replaced under warranty. Good luck

Lacie hard drive nonfunctional

I ran into this issue this week with my lacie big disk 500G external. Unit would power on when plugged into a pc blue light would flash and nothing no connection ding from windows.
Blue front light would flash repetedly slight ticking sound from drives but no connection i finally fixed this and gained access to my data by opening up the case and pluging my pc 12v connectors into both drives to power them up but leaving them connected to the lacie internals worked instantly and ive since copyed all my data off my 500 and will just transplant the drives to internal use on my pc. you cannot connect the drives internally and then copy the data due to the fact that they are raid 0 stripped drives so this hybrid setup works if your external case isnt powering up the drive correctly as mine wasnt.
