Is this a Kohler engine? If so there is a wire going to the coil from a 2 wire harness located at rear of engine near spark module. Unplug this wire to determine if problem is coil or a safety switch.

Won't start by using primer ,have to use starting fluid

could be a number if things, dirty carb, old gas, dirty coil contacts, low combustion chamber pressure, (bad rings), bad spark plug. First try replacing the spark plug and if it is old gas remove and replace with fresh. if that doesn't do it then the carb needs to be removed, cleaned and blown out thoroughly with an air compressor. reassemble and reinstall. next is to remove the recoil housing and clean the coil contacts. the coil is attached to the spark plug wire. remove and with some old gas or wd-40 and a wire brush, remove dirt and rust from contacts as well as magnet on the flywheel. be sure to leave the proper gap between the coil and flywheel when you replace the coil. If you can pull the recoil with your forefinger and thumb, chances are your machine is toast and needs a ring job. good luck

My 26 hp craftsman tractor stalls and won't start when it gets hot

being that would be a twin cylinder engine and has two sep coils does it missfire before it dies?does it have spark when it dies?does it sputter then die like it runs out of gas where the cap vent could be plugged and it vapor locks if you spark carb cleaner or starting fluid the solenoid on the bottom of the carb shutting off that should give you something to start with

My 2005 yamaha ttr 125 won't start, I change the spark plug and the conpression seem ok. What else could be?

Hi, N_glutek and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. The fuel tank has old dead gas.
3. Fuel tank bottom contaminated with ethanol sludge, dirt, water, rust, etc.
4. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
5. Fouled spark plugs.
6. Engine flooded as a result of overuse of the enrichner.
7. Vacuum hose to the fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
8. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
9. Fuel line to carburetor or throttle body pinched, kinked or blocked.
10. Carburetor float stuck.
11. Fuel injectors clogged.
12. A severely discharged or damaged battery, you need 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
13. Check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
14. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil or plug between ignition sensor and ECM module.
15. Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting check for spark leakage in the dark, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.
16. Ignition timing incorrect due to a faulty ignition coil, ignition module or MAP, CMP, CKP, O2, TPS, ETP, IAC sensors.
17. Faulty neutral, clutch lever, or kickstand safety switch.
18. Faulty fuel pump or fuse or relay.
19. A stuck bent or burnt valve.
20. Tilt sensor needs a reset.
21. Security system not disarming alarm needs a reset.
22. Check for engine trouble codes.

No fire to the spark plug and need gap at coil and magnet

Without the engine type and HP,its hard to say. Most coils are set at .020"
If your not getting a spark at the plug, you should try a new one and see if you get one. if not, you may have rust on the flywheel magneto or the coil pickup face. All you need to do is sand it a little and try again.

Xt 500 has weak spark(flywheel magneto with ignition points).poor when cold and now won't even start.fuel fine.isolated ignition(magneto,coil and points).changed coil.points fine,resistance...

It sounds to me that you have done most all of what is needed. Just take some fine sandpaper to the magnets in the flywheel. After sanding, wipe it clean, then spray it with carb cleaner to remove any possible residue. Now give the magnets a spray coating of clear polyurethane coating. The flywheel will never rust again. Replace the source coil and install a new spark plug. A plug that is carboned up can lessen spark voltage. The last item is the battery. A weak one can rob power. Please rate my answer. Thanks.

My 900 craftsman front tin tiller will not start - no spark. Ran great all last season, but after getting it ready for thisd spring - changed oil, cleaned plug, changes fule -- it will not start.

Sounds like you have a bad coil. You can try cleaning the rust and stuff off the magnet on your flywheel and see if it will start then and if not then your gonna have to buy another coil they shouldn't be to much.

My c-81 wheel horse was running fine for months. I was plowing the other day it was running and then it stopped. have no spark. bu plenty of juice. The starter does turn over when i jump the started. Just...

It does sound like the coil, but try this before you buy one: Change the spark plug, or substitute a known working plug and test for spark. Clean the terminals between the battery, switch and coil, and those at the coil, then test for spark again. Ensure that you can get power to the coil by testing the wiring for continuity along the same path. If all of the terminals are cleaned, and power can be applied all the way through the switch to the coil without getting fir, then the coil seems likely.

Hope this helps. Usually (and hopefully), cleaning the terminals will do the trick.

Have 10 hp Tecumsa engine and can not get ignition spark from plug. Have new spark plug, cleaned flywheel & coil with emery cloth. Have checked on/off switch for continuity. Can ignition coil be tested...

Did you check, that the magnet is on the flywheel.
When you cleaned the flywheel, did some metal rasping gather around it.
The magnet should be strong. A small steel instrument will be pulled by it.

The high voltage coil can be tested for resistance with an Ohm meter. The resistance may be some kOhm but not MOhm. If MOhm it should be replaced.

If the coil and magnet are OK, and well attached to the flywheel and aside with a minimal air gap, then the coil may be checked by turning the flywheel. As the voltage on coil ends when magnet passes by the coil should be very high, the only way for checking is with a spark plug, connected to the checked high voltage cable, the thread of the plug well connected to motor case. A spark is the prove that it is OK

Check also the HV cabel and the connection of other coil end to motor case.

I hope that this will be helpful, because I don't have your device in front of me. Some people rank such an answer with 2 thumbs (meaning useless). Better don’t rank.
