The most likely causes for this is:
External Speakers not turned on. Turn them on...
Driver for the sound device isn't installed: If you see the little speaker icon down the bottom right hand corner of your screen (near the clock), your sound card device driver is working well.
If it is not visable, the sound card device driver may or may not be working. Go into the start button, select settings (if available), then control panel, Sounds and Audio Devices.
Select the Audio tab Ensure that you have a 'default device' set.
If you get any errors when going into the sound and audio devices tab stating that you have no audio devices installed, then its most likely a driver issue. In this case, refer to your local computer shop to have the audio drivers installed.

Driver for the keyboard sound function not installed or not running. Solution: Reboot then test it. Reinstall the driver, test it.

Thanks for using FIXYA,
well, that sounds a motherboard problem, try to do this before we go furter:
take the battery off the machine and disconnect it from power, press and hold the power button at least for 30s.
then without the battery on , just the power cable, turn it on, if that dont works you need to repair the motherboard.
Thanks and dont forget to rate this solution

No sound on the speaker.

common issues with no notebook sound are volume physical switch turned down. mute sometimes checked off under the speaker by the clock some laptops have a Fn button that corresponds with keys either on the numbers or F keys above. look for anything that would work with a Function key combination (often in a blue color) printed on the keys themselves. another common issue is , in the control panel under sound /sound properties people sometimes tick of the "Digital output only" which effectively mutes the speakers. one last thing. sometimes on laptops volume settings dont look like buttons , but are responsive to touch. look for a volume slider image and play with that too. hope that helps, cheers.

I have CQ40 compaq presario laptop. when I am trying to start windows media player, it shows a message saying that I dont have a sound device in my computer. Please help!!!

  • Hi, first go to the "Start Search Window," click on the Start button, type: sound. Next in the select the "Playback" button; there should be a "Icon" with a speaker showing if the Speaker is working, or not. Highlight the icon, by clicking on it. The next step is to (check the configuration), click on the button; observe the "Test Button," test the device. You can configurate the speaker futher, by clicking on the next button; following the instructions. Once that area is completed, you can return to the "sound" window and select: Properties, in the "speaker properties, select one at a time each category: Level, Enhancements... to further make necessary changes to the sound, and speaker arrangement. Be sure to observe the ("Enable this device"), to have the sound work properly. Next select the Properties button, click on the "Driver Button" to Update the Drivers. After you have made all the changes and updates; "Restart the Computer." I hope this helped, if so rating the solution is appreciated, thanks."

Dv6120us power button dont work

None of the buttons will work untill the power is turned on and no sound will be heard.
You might want to try charging the battery by connecting the AC adapter to the laptop and plugging it into the wall outlet.
With the AC adapter connected, try powering up the laptop.
I hope this helps.
Good Luck.

Pointer problems

Try going to control panel, then under hardware and sound, click mouse, then you should see mouse properties. Click on 'Buttons" and be sure the "button configuration" is set for "Synaptics touchpad V.6.2 on PS2 port 3". Let me know if that doesn't do it. You may need to reinstall your Synaptics touchpad.
