Question about Kenmore 44042 Front Load Washer

Spins during cycle, but doesn't fully drain and no final spin

We have owned this (Model 417.441525400) for less than 2 1/4 years.  Fine yesterday, but doesn't drain fully and no final spin.  I have to wring everything out by hand.  Any ideas before my husband rips it apart?

The drain pump seems to work fine.  It pumps out the water for each cycle  During the spin cycle, I can hear the pump running, but the washr is not spinning.

I tried this, and the problem still exists.  Can you tell me how to get to the main control board?

Bizzy, as long as you are satisfied that the pump is ok, try putting it into a diag mode and see if we can come up with an error code.  First wake up the machine by pressing any button, then within 5 seconds press and hold the two greyed out buttons on the right  (pause and start cancel). As long as you hold those 2 buttons in, the error code should be flashing. Keep holding them in. Now you will have to count the times the 5 leds on the right flash. When they stop, count the times the start button flashes.  This will give you the code.  Post back here with the results and we'll see if we can come up with a code..Catriver

bizzy,  ok,  the error that you are reading is a E43.  As long as you don't have a letter (some have digital displays) such as A,B,C etc. showing. E43 is a control problem error and the tech sheet says to replace the control board.  Before doing that, place the washer in the diagnostic mode.  Turn the dial to drain/spin. Press pause/cancel to turn off all led's. Within 5 seconds press and hold the options and pause/cancel buttons until the led's start chasing each-other.  Now each click of the dial clockwise will test a function of the washer such as hot fill, cold fill, tumble, spin, etc.  When you get to 9 clicks clockwise the error will appear again.  To clear it press and hold the options and pause/cancel buttons together for 3 seconds.  The code will be cleared.  Unplug the washer for 30 seconds and see if you are still having the same problem.  If so,  then replace the main control board.   Catriver.

You will have to remove the top, Three screws in back, if it's hinged in back then there will be 2 clips in front that will have to be pushed in and the top will come up.  Im pretty sure your's will slide off toward the back.  The control board is mounted to the control panel in front.  This whole panel can be removed.  When you remove the top you will get a good idea on how it comes off. Be careful, you will have the plastic led's to contend with when removing the board.  The dial itself is keyed in so you don't want to force it or you will break it.   Just take your time and observe carefully when removing,  you should be just fine.  Catriver.

There is something clogging your pump, dismantle it to clear it. Plug off the wall socket mains first.

you can check the direct drive coupling between the motor and the transmission, if the coupling is good and not broken then you have a transmission problem
