I can't type on my compaq nx9010. (num lock led is on)

If you have a external keyboard available this would probably get you out of a jam so long as there are no other issues with the laptop. The computer keyboard will need to be replaced since it is locked down.

Power drain would be a better solution in this case.
1.first shut down the comp
2.unplug the charger
3. remove the battery
and after press and hold the power button for 60 seconds without any charger and the battery. After the 60 seconds replug the battery and the charger and turn the computer

HPCompaq nx9010 power switch broken

you should still be able to boot the machine even if the on/off button is missing, try poke the flat end of a pencil down the hole and apply just a little pressure and pull the pencil out and the laptop should boot, to reapir this you need to remove the panel that goes accross the top of the keyboard, this can be hard to do because of how they are clipped together, you should not have to remove anything else because this will reveal where the "power on" board is, all you need to do is replace the button or the panel, you may even find the the original button
hope this helps
