Hi Ken, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your DC24 doesn't seem to be picking up via the cleaner head, it's worth checking the motorised brush bar is rotating when the machine is turned on and reclined into the vacuuming position.

If not, you'll need to reset it following the steps shown in the video below. Use something like the eraser-end of a pencil to press the red reset button - you should hear and feel a click when you press it firmly enough.

Hi Peter, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear your DC19 isn't picking up as well as it should be. Have you washed the filter recently? We recommend washing it at least once every 3-6 months using cold water without detergent. Make sure the filter is completely dry before replacing it, which could take at least 24 hours:

If the filter has been washed, it's likely that there is a blockage somewhere in the floor tool, wand or hose that you may have missed. I appreciate you've already checked for this, but our support guide will walk you through the steps needed to locate and remove any obstructions:

If you've followed all of these steps and have not resolved the problem, please contact our experts directly so we can help. You can reach the Dyson Helpline by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Miele vacuum cleaner has suction when i cover the pipe with my hand but will not work on the carpet

You need to clear the jammed vacuum hose completely. There is something in the vacuum path either in the vacuum head or the hose. check the container ( bag or receptacle) and then start at one end of the hose and clear it all the way down to the hole at the vacuum head.

My home has a central vacuum system hook-up but no vacuum installed. My friend upgraded his central system and gave me his Eureka Mega Boss central vacuum system and the accessories, including the pow

The power head requires 120 Volts. Some hoses have a receptacle in the handle for the power head plug, and the hose has a cord at the wall inlet end that plugs into a receptacle. Some hoses have a plug at the wall inlet end that plugs into a 120Volt receptacle built into the inlet. The hose plugs into this receptacle when you push the hose into the inlet. The power for this built-in receptacle is wired with line voltage when the system is installed.

You have a clog in the hose that goes from the head up to the intake of the cylider. Most likely right as it leaves the beater head.

    1. Turn the unit on its side so that you can see inside the beater head. You will see funnel shaped opening that then goes to a hose. This hose then take the debris to the top of the cylinder. The clog is before the the area where the wand hose heads up to the top.

    2. Remove the short hose in the head and shake it out to remove the debris. Do this in an area where dust wont be an issue. There is likely a small rigid item blocking it at an angle that will cause dirt to build up. Make sure this gets removed or you will have the same problem again.

    3. Reinstall the hose as it was before.

    4. Test to make sure it all works

    No suction

There is a jam in the dirt path. Remove the beater ... disconnect the hose ... push a broom stick through the hose ... try to draw suction both ways through the hose with a second vacuum until you dislodge the obstruction.

The vacuum works on carpet mode but not floor and only when the wand is attached to the floor brush otherwise it does not work at all

Please define "works" on carpet mode" do you mean when you say it does not work at all, that it does not run, or does not have suction.
This sounds like the symptom of a clogged hose with blockage like this another vac needs to be used to draw things back out of the hose the way they went in.. Remove the hose and try dropping a penny through it . If there is an obstruction the penny will stop at that point and rattle inside the hose.

With a blockage at the hose, your power head will still lift lint and light soft dust, it will appear to have suction because the brush will sweep but the dirt will not go all the way through the hose.
Please post back to clarify if this is a vac that does not run or simpley has no suction
