This unit is in the garage and the return is wide open with only a filter on it. It has 2 outputs on the top of unit, 1 is about 8 ft, the other is about 18 ft long.

the air that comes out seems to match the air temp coming into the return. If I heat up garage with a heater then the air coming out is warm as well.

Check to see if the return duct has come apart in the attic or in the crawlspace (wherever the return is connected)

Depending upon your installation the filter could be located in the bottom section of the furnace right or left of the blower, remotely located in its own housing in the return air plenum or it may be missing altogether. If you can find a spot to put one in, do it. You may just have to reset your thermostat. Some models have a pre-timed indicator that comes on after a number of hours reminding you to check your air filter. Post the model number of the thermostat and maybe we can help you reset the timer.

SOURCE: Goodman Heater Blower Not Coming ON

The Ignitor on my furnace glows and fades. I do not hear anything blowing either as I watch the ignitor get bright orange..then fades.

Any answers? I tried to look here on this site but have not seen anywhere where there is a solution. I was going to replace the entire gas valve assembly because I am guessing the problem is with the coils sicne the ignitor fades away.

Help please?

make sure the blower is not set on rather than auto or the blower will run all the time. You might want to disconnect the thermostat and test the low voltage circuit to make sure the wires are not shorted

I have a goodman model gms80703ana the burner comes on and when the blower comes on the burner goes out.

This can be due to a dirty flame sensor or a high limit switch tripping. Clean the flame sensor first, this is a metal rod on the opposite side of the igniter, take steel wool and scrub it, then reinstall. If this does not work then the limit switch is tripping due to dirty filter, dirty blower wheel, weak blower motor. Aything that restricts airflow will cause the limit switch to trip.

Check filter to see if it is plugged. Has someone installed a new thermostat? If so, it may not have been installed properly. Sand off sensor to make it shiny, and be sure all supply and return registers are uncovered.

Even though this furnace is newer, I highly suggest a licensed tech make sure that this problem is not due to a breach in the heat exchanger causing the flames to go out when the fan comes on. That said, first check that the filter is clean and then check the flame sensor rod. If there is "chalky" build up on the end remove it with sand paper. If this cures the problem then purchase a new flame sensor for a more permanent repair.

The frost on the pipe indicates you have a dirty filter, dirty evaporator coil, Blower not running at the proper speed (to slow) or you are low on refrigerant.

The whole assembly must be replaced.

The sequence of operation is -

Combustion fan purges the heat exchanger. A pressure switch verifies combustion air fan is running. Usually a 30-45 second purge before the hot surface ignitor glows, or the spark ignition starts.

Gas valve opens after 10-15 seconds and main burners light. Control board monitors for flame and shuts gas valve after 2-3 seconds if main burner does not light.

If burner does not light, some boards repeat this for 3 tries, then locks out and is reset by cycling power.

Air blower comes on after another 30-45 seconds after main burner ignition.

Times may vary based on the specific controller board. A flow chart and timing sequence should be located somewhere on the unit, usually in the fan compartment.

The heater is blowing cool air. The furnace blower keeps running and something ignites and then goes out immediately. any suggestions?

Clean or replace the thermo couple.

It must detect a flame a few seconds after the main gas valve opens or it shuts it down. Since you are hearing the burners fire up the ignitor is working and all the other safety circuits are working to allow the furnace to fire up.

The thermocouple is a small silver tube that protrudes into the flame of the main burners, remove it and scrub with scotchbrite pad or anything mildly abrasive. You just want to remove carbon and corrosion build up, re-install and see if it fires up.

I have two Goodman furnaces and if you are to maintain them your self you should keep on hand a thermocouple and a new ceramic ignitor. They will inevitably fail on the coldest weekend of the year and the only place to get them will be from a service company with a emergency service call ...$180.00 VS $60.00 off ebay or internet sales.

Also if your power vent fan is making ANY noise it is on its last legs and buying on in advance online will save you about $80.00 over the loca ldealers price......been there done that
