Question about Sony PlayStation® 3 (80GB) Console

Game Disc won't play

I did a system update to my Playstation 3. Now, when i turn the system on, it goes to the main screen, but it fails to read a disc when I insert one. I have performed a hard reset but it's still not working.

There is no sound at all when the disc is inserted. Nothing! It is a 80 GB model, if that helps.

Tried the power button thing. It beeped once( Green light came on) and then twice more, at which time it shut off and went back into standby mode.(Red light)

Sounds like you may need a new laser lens. Can you hear the game, dvd or cd spinning when inserted. If its spinning and not reading i would think its the laser lens. I think KM400AAA is the one you will need. Is this a 60gig model?

    you can try this first.
with the system in standby (power switch on solid red light on front)
hold power button down for about 7 - 10 seconds you should hear 1 beep then two quick this should take you into the basic troubleshooting menu of the ps3. if it doesn't work the first time try it again, the ps3 may not know your trying to access the menu on the first try. there are multiple options. keep in mind by using these options you may lose game and save data.

i still have a feeling its the lens. if you want to open up your ps3, pull the blue ray player and open it up you can clean it yourself. this solves many of the disk related issues.

    www.llamma.com/PS3/repair/PS3_disassembly_tutorial.htm

you only need to go as far as removing the blue ray.

the next link will show you how to disassemble the blue ray drive and clean the lens.

When I start loading a game or video the playstation sayds video or game can not be played (error 8002997F)

Hi,

This error is related to an issue reading the BluRay Disc, you might try the following:

  1. Ensure that the latest system software update is installed on your PlayStation 3 system.
  2. Check the disc for scratches and dirt.
  3. Check that the disc is compatible with your PlayStation 3 system.
  4. Make sure that this is not only happening with one specific game, if so, the disc might be the issue.
  5. Try the disc in another PS3 system if you have one available to discard the possibility of a faulty disc.
Hope this helps.

PlayStation 3 system cannot read the disc

1 Answer

Do not read the disc

Hello,

The problem is that the lens of your ps3 is either dirty or weak that it can no longer read any disc, i advice that you get a lens cleaner to clean the lens of your game, if after cleaning, problem persist, replace the lens on your ps3 so that your ps3 can continue to function as it use to function before.

Replace the lens on your ps3 and you will see that it will start reading discs.
You can also try the below procedure,

1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

The current Recovery Menu supports:
• Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System.
• Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
• Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3.
• Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.
• System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System.

Take care.

Screen goes black during game play!

Hello,

You can also try the steps below. Its from PlayStation Forum:

• System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System

If the above steps still does not solve the problem, then I think will have to update your Ps3.

Update your PS3 (in the settings menu the 1st option).

Go on the internet browser on the PS3 then go on the menu press triangle then on one of them there are delete cookies and the delete the others as
well as cookies.

You could also try this as well: put the PS3 on then press the eject button (with no disc in) then hold it and switch the PS3 off at the back with
your finger on the eject button still holding it, then put it back on and the fan test should be working this may cool it down. It might be over heating.

But if your problem is not still solved, then maybe you should call sony for further assistance.

I wish you good luck.

Psp failed to update mlb 09 and now the screen is froze.

take off the battery and try again. If this doesn't help then the copy of the mlb game is defective.

Or you can just update your PSP through your computer (if you have internet)

Reads disc fine, then freezes

Start with a firmware update (make sure there is no disc in the drive when you do it)

Then do a System Restore.

If that doesn't work then it's probably a problem with your blu-ray drive itself. You might get by with just cleaning the laser.

Otherwise call Sony @ 1-800-345-SONY

Disk format

1) Turn on machine
2) Open Tray
3) With tray still open hold the reset until the tray closes.
4) Tap the reset once.
if there is a format disc error, it says "Please insert a Playstation or Playstation 2 format disc." It is accompanied by a sound similar to the browser, but with a more tense noise. This is caused by a disc being so badly scratched that it completely fails to recognise the format, or if there is a problem with the laser. Auto-Diagnosis (PlayStation 2 system) 1. Turn on the system without a disc inside. 2. Once at the Main Menu, press the triangle button to enter the Version Information Screen. 3. Highlight the "Console" option, and then press the triangle button again. 4. Next, press the X button, highlight "On", and then press the X button once more. 5. Now press the circle button twice to return to the Main Menu. 6. Press the eject button on the front of the console, and insert a disc. 7. Now close the disc tray, but DO NOT reset the system. 8. Highlight the Browser option from the Main Menu, and then press the X button. 9. In the Browser, an icon of the disc should appear on the screen. Highlight this icon, and then press the X button to read the disc. 10. If the auto-diagnosis is successful, the disc should load properly at this point.NOTE: The auto-diagnosis feature will return to "Off" the next time a disc is inserted.
