SOURCE: I have an Electrolux High Speed Oven E30SO75FPS that's 3 years old and the Magnetron has failed for the 3rd time. What can be causing this?

Is the internal cooling fan working?

Are the ducts and vents clear?

Problems with any of those can result in overheating, which destroys magnetrons.

I have seen high voltage rectifier diodes interact with magnetron in funny ways. I'd replace the diode, too.

You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here.

I recommend that you bookmark that link to your favorites.

Finally, baking potatoes and making popcorn really give the magnetron a workout.

You should put about 1/2 cup of water in the rear corner of the microwave when cooking those foods.

It helps "preload" the oven to prevent execessive microwave energy reflection back to the magnetron.

happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Frigidaire microwave is on and has power, when you push 1 to cook it acts like all is normal, but it doesn't cook.

More than likely the magnetron (heart of the machine) is defective, you might as well replace the MW

MCD1611W New, popping popcorn in glass MW corn popper. 3-4 minutes to pop. After popped I open the door and after a few seconds the MW shuts down completely, no lights, no response to pad pushing.

Popcorn is a low-moisture food which can cause a microwave to overheat, as can a failure of the cooling fan or blocked vents.

You should always turn a paper plate upside-down on the turntable (slightly off-center for better heating) and place the popcorn container on top of that.

The paper plate elevates the popcorn for better exposure to the energy and protects the turntable from excessive heat.

Placing food off-center instead of in the center increases exposure to the energy and prevents the same spot on the turntable from being overheated repeatedly, which leads to material fatigue and cracking.

It's also a good idea to put about 1/2 cup of water in a 1-cup microwave-safe container in the corner of the oven when cooking low-moisture foods like popcorn, bacon, and potatoes.

The microwave's magnetron has a thermal protector (thermostat, TCO, or thermal fuse) attached to it.

If the magnetron gets too hot, it can be damaged or destroyed, so the thermal protector opens and disconnects the power to the whole oven.

If it is a resettable device, the power will be restored when the device cools. If it is not resettable, the device must be replaced.

2. Check male plug for possible damage
3. Check thermal fuse for possible damage
4. If magnetron is damaged, replace the unit

Our Viking VMOS200 just stopped working. The lights and the countdown timer work, but no fan noise and no turntable spin.

it has nothing to do with the magnetron. first you have to fix step one. then you will know if the magnetron is bad. its one or two of the primary switches on the bottom of the switch tower. usually with these mw if you dont press cancel to stop the mw, and you just push the latch to stop it, those wires heat up and cause the microswitches to burn and loose proper contacts.

put a cup of water in the mw. set it to one minute and as its counting down. push on the latch LIGHTLY, as to not fully open the door and you will hear the magnetron kick on and the turn table start to rotate

The microwave stopped microwaving, but the clock starts to countdown

Hi, with the MW ovens, there isn't too much to go wrong, and when they do there are three places we check, One the main circuit board, two the Magnetron and three the Power Supply in particular the High Power Diode.
MW's are VERY DANGEROUS to service, as they have a VERY large Capacitor in them which if touched when charged WILL KILL YOU,therefore I usually try and dissuade anyone from DIIYing a MW. Only skilled engineers should undertake repairs i feel.
In any event I would think that your problem is indeed the magnetron/High Power Diode., it usually is.
Please take the Unit to a reputable repair center, now when there ask for a "Quote" before allowing repairs to start. This way you will get an idea of costings, as you see often the replacement costs, like a magnetron can easy cost the repairer $100.00, and the cost of repairs can quickly approach the cost of a New unit, with a warranty... thus when armed with the costings one can then make an informed decision as to what to do,.

Mw oven totally dead. 2 year old panasonic

No sorry there is none... look what usually happens is the magnetron, or high power diode, or Oower Supply goes faulty, a magnetron can cost between $95 - $150, or more...and usually that is NOT the only part that will/would need replacing. Cut your losses, and get a firm "Quote" from a repair center, or get a new one, with a 5 year Warranty.

Starts up then after 1 sec shuts down and ask for the time and date and to be reset

You've got a failed magnetron. After it engages it's leaks microwaves (radio frequencies) into the control area behind the touchpad and scrambles the IC board in there. It'll have to be replaced.

Here's the thing... MW ovens should NEVER be repaired by untrained people... lurking inside is a high voltage capacitor that stores up to 2,500 volts DC and is just waiting for someone to make the wrong move. When the wrong move is made, the cap discharges all 2,500 volts in a fraction of a second. At best it'll just knock you out... at worst you'll be a few days in the Hospital.

OK, all the gruesome stuff is said... now for the good news. GE places a 10 year warranty on their magnetrons! So here's what you do... Call around to some appliance repair companies and get quotes for installing an over-the-range MW magnetron (labor only 'cause you'll supply the magnetron) and go with the cheapest. Then you call GE customer support at 1-800-GE-CARES and provide them with the model and serial number for you machine (it's on a sticker inside the cavity). Then tell them that your MW was diagnosed with a failed magnetron and ask them to send one to you free of charge. They might give you some lip about "only an authorized GE repair guy blah, blah, blah", if they do that just tell them that you already have an installer for it (GE factory guy's aren't cheap, btw) and if "you won't ship it to me, let me speak to your superviser". They'll send it to ya, I've done it a thousand times.

After the magnetron arrives at your doorstep, call the repair company and get them to come out and install it. There ya go!

p.s. Please heed my warning above.

What is the range of blootooth in meter.

The range of a Bluetooth device depends on the Radio Class. I am not sure what the Class on a BlackBerry Curve is, but here are the options:

Class Maximum Permitted Power mW (dBm) Range (approximate)
Class 1 100 mW (20 dBm) ~100 meters
Class 2 2.5 mW (4 dBm) ~10 meters
Class 3 1 mW (0 dBm) ~1 meter

Panasonic microwave...

Without HV test equipment it is quite difficult to determine if it is the magnetron or inverter.

5 years is a little short for magnetron failure but it appears that this is about all you can expect these days from a magnetron - the best I have seen was 11 years. I have not seen an inverter failure as yet (although I am not a full time repair man). The main reason I suspect it is the magnetron is the short time period from start to stop - it is typical of magnetron failure in Panasonic microwaves.

As regards door hinge side, that is one of the great unknowns. I suspect it comes from most people being right handed but even refrigerators could be specified as right/left hand hinged originally and now can be changed by customers.
