Question about ViewSonic PJ452 LCD Projector

Open Question

Blue dots projected within video projection

The projector is about 4-5 years old......for the last 2 years, little blue dots have been appearing around the edges a first then eventually covering most of the screen. the picture is still clear except for the light blue haze from the dots. looks like individual pixels out. i was wondering if it is dust that somehow got dust inside or a part of the inside the projector that needs to be serviced or replaced. also i am wondering if it something that i can do myself if i got replacement parts or if i need to send it in to be serviced.

SOURCE: My PJ458D projector is connected

This is normally caused by a discrepancy between the computer screen resolution and the projector resolution. It could also be related to the computer screen resolution and the aspect ratio of the projector.

Could you please confirm what cable you're using to connect the computer to projector. Could you also please confirm the computer screen resolution and if the projector is set to Auto Source Select along with its Aspect Ratio.

Little blue dots on screen and large blue haze in upper left corn

Sounds like the light engine is going bad...that's why they stopped making these rear projection sets using LCD's. Costs almost as much as a new set! But get a second opinion before trashing it.

Blue dots and streaks

Blue streaks might have been just your video connection and problem with signaling. But, blue dots is faulty light engine, aka "optical block". The engine in this could be a defective LCD array. Very expensive, a optical block is about $850. Hope it's still under warranty. You could get a rebuilt one, possibly. Need service adjustment too. Bad problem that Sony has with these kinds of sets.

The image processor must be getting old and worn out. Call Epson or go onto their website and see if it is  a dDIY project or if you will ned to send it in.
